WASHINGTON American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. issued the following statement on the budget blueprint released by the White House:
This budget shirks our nations responsibility to care for its citizens and ensure the publics health and safety, help our struggling neighbors secure better jobs and safe housing, and promote democracy around the world.
The budget proposes to eliminate or reduce funding for hundreds of programs and entire agencies that have a very real impact on the lives of all Americans. This includes programs that help create American jobs in economically distressed communities, clean up vital waterways like the Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay, help cities and towns prepare for potential terrorist attacks, and spur research into cures for deadly diseases.
In many cases, the Trump administration is simply sending the bill for these vital programs to cash-strapped state and local governments or even businesses themselves who in turn would have to pass the costs onto taxpayers to keep these programs running.
The severity of the budget cuts proposed by President Trump could require mass layoffs of employees at federal departments and agencies, although the budget blueprint released by the White House does not detail how many federal employees could lose their jobs.
These cuts, if implemented, would have devastating and lasting consequences on the nation. Every American should study the facts, reject the rhetoric, and decide for themselves if they share the bleak vision of America that President Trump is promoting.
Guess we will see what happens.
Here's an old song I like;)
O. C. Smith - Little Green Apples
Meaning it fails union leaders from getting a higher compensation and retirement benefits.
Good!
How would a government employees union know anything about work or working people?
Hope more layoffs coming and still cut more junk.
AFGE fails America.

This BS is all about Government Union Jobs! Good, hope they enjoy the unemployment lines like the taxpaying citizens have had to endure these past 8 years! Turnabout is fair play!
By “Working People”, this guy means his fellow hogs feeding at the public trough that is constantly refilled by the beleaguered net taxpayers. I suppose some of them DO work hard. And those few should probably do OK working in the private sector.
A union of government workers....
Eliminate public employee unions altogether! NO AFGE union at all.
Government Workers are not the Working People.....Consumers v. Producers
Government workers is an oxymoron.
Have you ever been to a Social Security office?
Trump budget fires government employees would be a better title.
AFSCME if I care.
Excellent!!!
I worked in DC for a boss whose hands were tied in reducing positions.
However when a few employees that would not produce falsified their records to say they did things, when in fact they were goofing off, he terminated them.
Funny thing is, they were never missed. There seems to be a bunch of employees in DC that see their daily jobs as commuting to and from work, reading the news, doing personal thinks like email on the internet, going on breaks, visiting co-workers, having lunch and avoiding any actual performance. They won't be missed.
How can it be that the head of any union knows anything about “work” or “workers”? That seems highly unlikely.
Sorry, unions, it’s not the job of the taxpayer to keep padding your membership rolls.
Since when does one of the largest FEDERAL EMPLOYEE unions do anything for “the working man”?
You produce nothing, you give no rise to the word ‘profit’, you get paid from taxes wrenched from the hands of real ‘working people’, at inflated wages when compared to the competitive wage in the area, you are guaranteed more than two weeks ‘vacation time’ a year, and should you acrue more than the maximum amount, you MUST use them or lose the excess (over 240 hours), you acrue 4 hours ‘sick time’ per payday until you retire or resign with no maximum limit.
The average real American working person does not have all this, and be paid from folks’ taxes.
Working people as in Union Labor leader compensation packages, peons are known as labor.
Working people withdraw dues, labor pays them...
