Obamacare Victims Tell Their Horror Stories at The White House

President Trump met with a number of Americans deeply and negatively affected by Obamacare at the White House Monday as the administration tries to sell the American Health Care Act.

"Our rates are three times what they were before Obamacare started. We have one provider in the county," Carrie Couey of Colorado said. "We have very little options for what we can and cannot do. We are a small business, but we aren't brick and mortar we are cattle ranchers. We can't afford our equipment anymore if we're paying these rates year after year after year. Our food source is in jeapardy because of this heath care law." "We were uninsured in December, they dropped us for the third time after we paid over $50,000 last year for healthcare expenses," Couey continued.

Another woman, Brittany Ivey from Georgia, had a similar story and explained her family has been struggling to keep their personal finances afloat under Obamacare rate increases.

"It's been hard," Ivey said. "It's almost put our family into financial ruin."

A woman from Arizona, where premiums went up by 116 percent, said costs from Obamacare became so overwhelming she opted out of health insurance altogether and pays the penalty instead.

This being the case and I accept that fully, WHY would you replace one socialized healthcare system with another? Rino Care is dead and there will be no resuscitation.
We need a free market system with safety net. NOT A TRANSFER OF WEALTH!!System . We are a compassionate nation, not a communist nation.

Whoever set this meeting up did a masterful job of getting the right people in the room.

A woman from Arizona, where premiums went up by 116 percent, said costs from Obamacare became so overwhelming she opted out of health insurance altogether and pays the penalty instead.

It is important for the Trump team to hear stories like this because this woman's situation isn't going to get much better under the Ryan bill. She won't be paying a penalty to the IRS anymore, but it is pointless to pass an Obamacare "fix" that imposes a 30% surcharge on the premiums for people like this when they can't even afford the premiums to begin with.

“A woman from Arizona, where premiums went up by 116 percent, said costs from Obamacare became so overwhelming she opted out of health insurance altogether and pays the penalty instead.”

A lot of younger and healthy Americans took this option.

Or their deductibles are so high, they go to walkin clinics or pharmacies for injections and the clinics and pay cash for regular doctor visits. Some negotiate a reduced cost if they pay when they receive care and no billing.

The Obamacare is an emergency funding for if they go to a hospital. Again their deductibles are so high, they are still out a lot of money.

I'm listening to Andrew Wilkow and he completely nails it.

The Republicans aren't making the free-market, complete overhaul of healthcare that they should.

There's no discussion of increasing supply of healthcare providers, i.e. Nurses, doctors, and nurse practitioners.

The supply is static; yet the demand continues to skyrocket.

(1) Repeal Obamacare

(2) End Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP

(3) Get rid of regulations that restrict supply into the provider market and end the AMA monopoly on doctor certification

(4) $5,000 tax credit for all healthcare out-of-pocket expenses, co-pays, deductibles, and premiums

I guess me and the wife should be thankful that obummercare cost us 5000 in post cancer treatment last year instead of the usual 2 or 300.

We absorbed it well but would rather not have!!

These people sound like they are in DIRE straights.

They’re not making NYC money, to spend 50k on health!!!

I have a fun one. I was DENIED coverage by “obamacare” unless I went on the state’s medicaid. I am not poor. I am self employed. So I figure, “what the hell I will apply for medicaid.” I was REJECTED for medicaid as well. That’s great. If I liked my doctor I could keep him (he retired as soon as the law passed.) If I liked my plan I could keep my plan (I had catastrophic coverage which is now illegal). I was going to save $2500 per year (plans have tripled since this monstrosity passed.)

This is the type of emotionally evocative storytelling conservatives need to do that liberals have as their mainstay.

This is what makes me crazy when the Left caterwauls about how we’re going to leave people uninsured.

Millions of people are what I call *functionally uninsured*. They have insurance on paper, but the deductibles are so high, they’ll never be able to pay them, and thus never be able to use the insurance they technically have and pay through the nose for every month.

Why can’t we take the really hard cases, the truly poor and just issue them health stamps, like we do food stamps and be done with it?

Trump is taking it to the naysayers

He is doing what the bought-and-paid for fake Republicans in the HOR and US Senate refuse to do. That would be a serious attempt to write a bill that solves the problem and highlight personal stories of those who have suffered because it's Obamacare.

It's not just Ryan. It took a majority of phony Republicans in the HOR to make him Speaker. Besides that, the Freedom Caucus or some other group could've set up hearings for this. There's only one conclusion that can be drawn from the DC shenanigans of not repealing Obamacare....those phonies are only on our side until the votes are counted!

I was denied coverage last year because I tried to enroll outside the open enrollment period. Apparently I was the only person in the U.S. whose unique circumstances didn't count as a "qualifying life event" that would enable me to enroll in the middle of the year.

I was ready, willing and able to sign up for a regular individual health plan -- but the law didn't allow me to do this!

Hopefully that will be my last experience with a traditional insurance plan. I found an alternative that costs about 70% LESS than a regular plan. It doesn't meet the Federal requirements under the ACA but I am now able to check the "Exempt" box on my tax return so I pay no penalty.

Health care insurance has become so expensive and with such high deductibles ObamaCare is more expensive than simple catastrophic care coverage used to be with less coverage

They got a great ethnic/gender cross-section of America, too.

I have to go back and identify the black guy who was a couple of seats to Trump's left. He's a lawyer who was working for the DNC when the ObamaCare bill was being drafted, and he resigned in protest because he could not support a bill that paid for abortions.

Hats off to that man of principle.

I feel bad for the folks that lost business, lost savings or were fined because of this fiasco. I was buying my own insurance just fine before this happened. After Obamacare, the only way i could afford my premiums were to go on social security early at 62. So I left my future money on the table by doing that. I could only afford a crummy policy with a 5000 annual deductible.
