Here's a bit of background on how warped Letterman got, and how he's hated by the people who know him the best.

Frankly, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving jerk. I won't forget how he trashed conservatives every chance he got after becoming an entertainment big-shot.

It's hard to believe, but in the 80s I made a point of staying up late to watch his shows - his wit was humble-midwest based. Just goes to show how fame and fortune can ruin someone.

Knew him in college. He was a jerk then. Never was a fan

He’s rich, retired and miserable. I just hope old age won’t sour him any more.

Read this a few hours ago from Drudge. Letterman sounds like a likely candidate for suicide.

Turned into a typical humorless lefty. Not good for a comedy show.

Even before the 2009 scandal when an affair with an assistant exposed Letterman to an extortion try, the host interacted infrequently with most of the show staff.

I remember hearing about that. While he publicly addressed this, I couldn’t believe the reaction of the audience that night.

He was telling his audience in all seriousness about how he had sexual relationships with staff and interns, and they applauded!!!

As if they were happy for him for getting something off girls who work for him!!! I was stunned!!!

Johnny Carson had more talent in his little pinkie than Letterman had in his whole body.

He was never that funny unless one enjoyed his type of humor. There wasn’t any. Mediocrity.

I can’t believe the picture of the old man with the beard is Letterman. He doesn’t look like he used to. I know we all look older as we age. But this pic- I never would have guessed it was an older Letterman.

Yes, he was good (at least entertaining, that is) in the ‘80s. Something happened to him in the time since, or more likely, his mask merely fell off. His personal attacks on Sarah Palin and her family were pure evil. A very dark soul.

His inner nastiness always came through to me. Didn’t watch him more than a half dozen times during his entire career.

I'd be pretty miserable too, if my wife looked like the stunt double for Cory Feldman

Below is my post about the ncidiousness of the constant ridicule of conservatives by liberals in entertainment, including Letterman,

I don’t mind political satire even when it’s against my own guys. But SNL harps on it every week with the same old jokes over and over. Jeez what would Baldwin have done the last year if not for SNL. Put your feet on the couch, get blasted if you’re a repub. Put your feet on the desk if your Obama and crickets. Southern accent and good man, you must be a simpleton racist because we a re New Yorkers ad we are sophisticated. We own the air and we will put you in your place you southern retard, have a box of chocolates (last week on SNL).

This is blatant propaganda because those stereotypes conjured up to ridicule people last in people’s minds and become the reality. How many people think Sarah said, I can see Russia from my house? Many. Repeat the lie ridicule the people and all of a sudden decent people are pushed aside as irrelevant or not cool or for God’s sake not someone we would ever vote for.

Chevy Chase fell down weeks after week as Gerald Ford and Letterman showed Bush 2 as stupid every night and hardly laid a glove on stuttering 57states obama.

The libs control the air and we have little or no response. We can tune out but millions watch and that’s their exposure to fake reality. That’s why dems in power want to control the internet and talk radio. It’s all conservatives have access to.

Maybe he could move in with Obama and be the Shadow Government Slap Stick.

Letterman could be funny at times in his early days...his days with NBC.All things considered Leno was better than Letterman but neither could hold a candle to Carson.

And that subordinate he was stupping...the one young enough to be his daughter...was damn cute. But by his own leftist standards he should have been fired...as BillyBob should have been.

Same here. Used to love the show, but then he morphed into a Leftist pig...

Yes. It may be that my sense of humor was more tuned to sarcasm when I was brash and young, and am more mellow now. But I don't think my judgement would have been TOO far off - back then I despised liberal twits like Alan Alda or (the albeit very pro-life) Martin Sheen.

Letterman - or those who influenced / wrote for his show back in the 80s - had a lot of silliness in their hearts - witness things like the velcro trampoline stunt, or the Alka-Seltzer-in-a-tub-of-water bit. Or maybe they were just recycling / channelling a lot of Steve Allen bits.

I miss Johnny Carson. And Jay Leno. I haven’t watched anything ‘late night’ since Leno retired.
