Tom Hanks is set to produce a HBO miniseries dramatizing the 2016 US election.
The show will be based on the forthcoming book from Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, whose work also inspired the 2012 film Game Change, which starred Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin and Ed Harris as John McCain, and won five Emmys.
It will also share the same director, Jay Roach, typically known for his comedic work, including Austin Powers and Meet the Parents. Len Amato, president of HBO films, has said the film will vividly capture the most unique and impactful event in modern American politics.
It will also continue Hanks relationship with the channel; he produced Band of Brothers, The Pacific and another forthcoming series about the second world war.
Its not the only show about Donald Trumps surprise victory in the works. Ryan Murphy has already announced that the next season of American Horror Story will revolve around the election, while the team behind Zero Dark Thirty has announced a competing miniseries.
Halperin and Heilemann will also be bringing a new series of their political documentary series The Circus to Showtime. It will cover the first 100 days of Trumps presidency and starts on 19 March.
By the time its ready to release in 18 months, the economy will be booming and “they” will be forced to shelve the project. That is my hope.
Merrill Streep to play her. Will wear an Ivanka.
Halperin and Heilemann already spat out “TRUMPED: INSIDE THE GREATEST POLITICAL UPSET OF ALL TIME” on Showtime. Why does HBO continue with the lefty garbage? They’re going to wind up like CNN once the “Game of Thrones” series ends.
At long last Hillary is going to win the danged election!
HBO can’t help changing the outcome. Which ending will they choose? Trump stole the election with the help of the Russians? Middle Americans were hoodwinked by a simpleton with a simple message? Obama had done such a fabulous job righting America’s wrongs that the public could mistakenly trust a racist, sexist, crude demagogue?
You know they won’t tell the real story which is that a thoroughly corrupt and unlikable Democrat was exposed by leaked documents revealing a pay-for-play government where the country’s interests were subverted by payoffs back to the Democrats which offended enough people that an unknown outsider was considered a better alternative.
Tom Hanks should stick to things he is good at, like making ‘Captain Philips #2’.
I liked Tom Hanks a lot more when he was doing movies like “Bachelor Party.”
And they will be using the MSM for all research. /s
Maybe—but Hanks cannot hide the fact she was rarely on the campaign trail and some of the weird campaign speeches she made just turned off voters to no end (like that late August 2016 speech denouncing the “Alt-Right” and the infamous “Basket of Deplorables” speech).
I liked him more in the remake of ‘Castaway’ where he drowned without even making it to the Island. The End.
If Hanks is negative on Trump’s win he’s a [well, you know what he is]. I like him and I am disappointed.
Whatever it is about this upcoming thing and how he is involved, I am pretty certain it won’t be truthful, nor will it be complementary of Trump. I envision more excuses why that b!tch lost and how Trump cheated with the Russians or wiretapping or hacking...
I don’t know his deep politics either, but I know he is a really good, open minded guy on one subject we both are interested in. He is just like any other person in researching and sharing info. No snobbery or false modesty at all. It is very impressive how down to earth and bright, funny, and open he is in such a situation.
So I will be very disappointed if he sucks Hollywood teat here.
I know his beautiful wife is a deep lefty.
We’ll see how much his wife is involved in the project. She’s a real hard-core Lefty. I think sometimes Tom just goes along with her.
#5 Tom Hanks will not be telling the truth.
If he would then he would show the murders of 2 people and the bags of money and her being tossed into a van as she had a seizure.
Don’t trust ANYTHING coming out of Hollywierd. BOYCOTT!!
#55 He blamed the United States for being racist towards the Japanese in WW2. He must have missed the genocide they were committing and the attack on Dec 7 that killed thousands of Americans.
Tom Hanks: But but we said bad words toward the Japanese!
I’m just wondering how they will handle the dinosaurs with the red capes. Costumes or CGI?
