A spokesman for former President Obama issued a statement denying the former president or his White House ordered a wiretap of Trump Tower during the election.
The statement came from the former presidents current spokesman Kevin Lewis on Saturday afternoon, after President Donald Trump made the accusation in a tweetstorm that shifted the focus of the news day.
That statement followed a similar denial by an unnamed former senior official in the Obama administration.
Former aide to President Obama, Valerie Jarrett emphatically tweeted that Lewis statement was enough said but was it?
There are still questions such as, why didnt the 44th president issue the statement himself but rather opted to have it done through a spokesman who signed his name to it?
And, was it actually a denial?
Jon Favreau, a speechwriter who worked for former President Obama during his administration, warned the media, and fellow liberals, not to paint the statement as a denial that Trump Tower was wiretapped.
I'd be careful about reporting that Obama said there was no wiretapping. Statement just said that neither he nor the WH ordered it.
He is correct. Nowhere in the denial is any denial that the wiretap occurred or that the Obama administration knew of it.

Technically a FISA, Obama-loving hack judge ordered the wiretap at the request of Obama or an Obama-appointed douche.
Hitler never directly ordered the murder of millions of Jews BTW. Just sort of happened. Same here.

"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the--if he--if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement....Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true."
I can't do photoshop, but somebody ought to do something along the lines of "Office Of The President Emeritus Of The United States" or something similar.
The guy is still trying to act as though he is official.
(took 10 seconds to find it on Google)
then there is a definite paper trail.

I just heard on Fox News that they don’t know who authorized this—part of Obama’s 10 Trillion deficit must have been spent on paper shredders :(
Didnt Obama tap Angela Merkels cell phone? Didnt Obama tap FOX reporter James Rosen phone and e-mails, also James Roses mothers phone and e-mails?
And didnt Obozo justice dept with Holder go after Sharyl Attkissons computer for her investigation into Fast and Furious gun running scandal?
From the 44th pResident.
How do we know it’s actually Trump doing it?
Yes, one can look at parsing the word “ordered.” However, there is a key subject being entirely overlooked. The term US Citizen denotes an individual and as such was not a part of the wiretap request.
Obama’s spokesperson made sure there was no reference to the business entity called, “Trump Tower” or to the so called “Russian bank server.” These entities are certainly not US Citizens.
Therefore, while the statement we were given is correct, it has absolutely nothing to do with the ex-Obama administration’s actions regarding the wiretap episode in question.
Drove around...and shifted cell towers with them...and properly tracked the handoffs.
Hillary didn’t order the Travel Office staff fired.
...because she had no actual authority to fire them. She just irately and vigorously demanded it.
Good catch as well.
I think FDR bugged it and Nixon may have knowingly kept it installed. Probably still bugged today. Especially since Obama had the Whitehouse remodeled.
Bugging an office in the FDR days would have required some pretty large stuff compared to today. And, absent a vacuum tube transmitter, it would have had to be hard-wired. Transistors hadn’t even been invented yet in the FDR days, let alone integrated circuits.
Yep but they did it and I and I am pretty sure they used wire recorders to boot.
Could be. They just couldn’t have the tiny button microphone/transmitter devices that we have today.
And let's not forget something more recent - the Obama admin bugging members of the U.S. Senate. Senators wagged their fingers and stomped their feet a bit, but did nothing about it. So there is evidence that Obama wasn't above using the power of the government against opponents, not unlike the Clintons.
