A former policy adviser to President Obama is firing back at President Trump's claim that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower, saying it didn't happen at least not under Obama's orders.
"No President can order a wiretap. Those restrictions were put in place to protect citizens from people like you," Ben Rhodes tweeted Saturday morning.
He also said "only a liar" could make the case, as Trump suggested, that Obama wire tapped Trump Tower ahead of the election.

All you got? Pretty thin gruel idiot Rhodes.
FISA *did* turn them down the first time.
The second, narrower request was approved (by a different judge than the first time).
Someone has records of the communications, if only to cover their own exposed derrière(s).
The Democrat Party media hacks. Rallying around Obama. Hoping to keep him from taking the fall.
Who will they throw under the bus?
Mr. Rhodes is distorting the claim, which is what radical un-American leftists do. The chain of command is FBI > DOJ > White House.
No...no...Valjar would be the one ordering Obama
The Hill is a leftwing rag that has always promoted Obama and company.
Brennan will deny to the day he dies that he ever discussed anything with Obama. The politically correct left wing lowlifes will of course believe him and take comfort in their delusions.
Obama can't order a wiretap...because it's illegal.
No person can rob a bank...because it's illegal.
That's there argument.

Statement from @BarackObama Spox:
DOJ invoked Espionage Act in calling Fox News reporter criminal ‘co-conspirator’
Judson Berger By Judson Berger Published May 22, 2013
The Justice Department did more than seize a Fox News reporter's emails while suggesting he was a criminal "co-conspirator" in a leak case -- it did so under one of the most serious wartime laws in America, the Espionage Act.
[[The fact is that Obama did order a wire tapp and that wire tapp was illegal.]]
It’s one thing to claim that but quite another to prove it- We all may feel in our guts that obama did so- but given that he’s a black president who is adored by the msm- it’s going to take a powerful lot of evidence to prove he ordered it personally
So Rhodes isn’t denying the existence of the wiretap(s)?
Just the language Trump used in the tweet?
[[He cant order a legal wiretap, but Obama has an army of devoted Alinskyite minions who believe that the end justifies ANY means.]]
That may be true- but linking it back to him is going to be difficult to impossible- maybe- the reason, as you point out, is because he had people willing to take a fall for him if anything ever came of it- it is very likely, that at best, a few fall guys will take the heat-
The FISA court would actually issue the order. Obama would have manipulated the data to get the wiretap warrant. It’s like a prosecutor taking a case to a grand jury, they always get what they want out of the jury.
Well not legally, but when would the law or the 4th amendment stop a devil like 0bama. I’ll bet Trump has some NSA info to back him up.
McCarthy doesn't say anything like this in his article. He doesn't even claim that there were any wire taps.
Sundance seems to be making things up.
But I mentioned to a friend that Trump was a very smart guy and I was sure he had his reasons for keeping Comey on board that were not readily apparent to the rest of us at that time. I figured he had something up his sleeve to use Comey down the road for a reason.
Well, now we're down the road a ways and it sounds you're thinking the same thing. What is your take for Trump keeping Comey at the FBI? How does it fit in here? We haven't heard a peep out of Comey since Trump made his announcement to retain him.
Not arguing, just curious.
