The Maine lobster industry is bigger and more lucrative than ever, with fishermen landing more than 130 million pounds of lobster valued at $533.1 million in 2016.
That is a record for both landings and industry value, according to Commissioner Patrick Keliher of the Department of Marine Resources, who announced the results Friday at the annual Maine Fishermens Forum. Related Headlines

This is a critical industry for Maine, so these record highs mean a lot to the men and women who fish our waters, as well as the communities that depend on them, Keliher said.
The record haul is the result of strong conservation efforts, a decline in lobster predators, and younger sexual maturity and spawning as a result of warming waters, Keliher said.
We need 20 truck loads of butter now!!!!!
The only reason it was so big was global warming was causing the lobster to want to jump out of the ocean before it boiled them right there. /s
My wife is from MA. Back in 205 we went to Maine with 100 quart cooler and filled it with lobsters $3 cash a pound right off the boat. I brought s spicy craw-fish boil mix with me and we did some that way they were good.
205 = 2005
I was going to comment about your long family tree, beating mine which goes back to King Olaf of Sweden in 0214. :)
I vacation there every year. Most of that lobster goes to Canada, I think, and is processed and canned or frozen.
I note that the “journalist” showed his or her true colors, crediting warmism and conservation in one sentence. I wonder why the freezing lobsters and their various food sources didn’t just head south years ago to find more temperate conditions?

While I am against a lot of Government Regulations, IMHO they finally implemented a smart one where hens with babies are returned to the sea. They are now seeing the fruits of this regulation.
They should consider asking shrimpers throw back shrimp with young where reasonable. I do not advocate a blanket regulation because of the catch size.
I don't think there is much temperature variance on the ocean floor at the depths that lobster live in........
In Maine about 10 years ago, lobster was about $4/lb. - family shipped a big box home........lobster fishermen were furious and bypassing the middle-men to get more.
Still about $15/lb. here. Middle-men & retailers make all the profit.
Everyone needs a friend in Maine to get them lobster.......
Supposedly, according to the warmists, the warming of the Maine waters is causing the lobsters to migrate towards Canadian waters. They are predicting big declines in the catch. Oh nooos!
My friend is named Virgil. He sits on his dock drinking Moxie, taking in part of his son’s lobster catch (he’s retired), and selling them to vacationers. Generally about 4 bucks a pound. My husband has to haul them out of the water, though. Shedders are the best!
should be “...female lobsters with eggs...” and they have always been returned to the ocean for many, many, many decades.
Another 10 of baking potatoes and one of lemons - stat!!
Man, my eyes are going. Upon first read I thought it said 130 lb. Lobster caught.
I went there looking for a picture..Lol.
“Lobsters live in the sea and possess hard shells. Female lobsters are called hens or chickens and male lobsters are called cocks. Newborn lobsters, referred to as baby lobsters by many, are called the ‘bug’ by lobstermen.”
