Fast-food restaurant chain Wendy’s will install self-order kiosks at 1,000 stores across the country by the end of 2017 to trim extra labor costs imposed by minimum wage hikes, NJ Advance Media reported. Wendy’s said it already offered to install kiosks in several locations last year and has received positive feedback from customers and franchisees who say they want more of the service.

I’ve seen them in some smaller chains. Convenient, fast, and easy to use.
Oh man - after reading your post I don’t think I will ever set foot in a fast food establishment until it is fully automated (robotized?).
You better reconsider some your “don’ts”. Lot’s of grubby fingers that have been in/on God knows what touch those screens. Be best to wash your hands before eating after using the kiosk.

You are probably enough of an economist to know that the graph does not work if the employer is a monopsonist paying a wage that reflects the monopsony power (slavery, feudalism, company towns, etc.), a RARE situation in today’s labor-mobile work place. Unfortunately, I am not adept enough to graph this rare situation on FR!
I predict this will fail.
Due to increased food waste costs caused by customers who are too illiterate to properly order from the kiosk.

The Wendy’s in my town is about 40 years old, has never been remodeled and is filthy.
A while back, I stopped at a WAWAS or whatever the name is at Road 60 and Valrico Road in Valrico to get a sandwich. I walked around the store for about 10 minutes and did not see anyone working there, but did see several displays of different foods with the instructions , To order this, press that. For this. press the other on them. As I was leaving, some guy stuck his head out of somewhere and said, “Can we help you”. You could have. I wandered around for 10 minutes looking for somebody. I am gone now.
I do my business with human beings. I am not a number. I know my bank tellers names and they know mine. We converse with each other.But that is just me. I am old fashioned and I am sure in the New wold Order things will be different.I just hope that I am gone by the time it happens.
The headline should also include that several thousand people will lose their jobs due to democrats.
It didn’t take people marching in the streets for a wage for this to be developed.

I can say “Roast beef on rye with swiss, lettuce and mayo” in 3 seconds or I can pound a key board for 3 minutes while the counter guy watches me. It’s a waste people. Going out to eat is supposed to be relaxing, not a high tech swipe a push fest.
McDonald's cashiers use terminals with pictures of the products on them.
The merely gets the person who barely understands Inglés out of the loop and lets the customer peck at the picture of the food-like item he wants himself.
