Am I to understand that “ Rojava’ is the next Kosovo ?
A breakaway state of west Kurdistan?
With U.S. occupiers?

Kosovo is a city on Turk/Syrian border.

Rojava is a region, in the minds of Turks and Arabs in North Syria.

Rojava was a Kurd description before all this.

And yes, we have people on the ground in a hanger at this base. I saw photos of it only described as being in NW Syria about 2 weeks ago.

My mistake. I was thinking Syria and Kobani.

Was not careful enough.

I do know about Kosovo.

This is not the same conflict. In Kosovo we supported KLA Terrorists to establish a Muslim terrorist government over a people who were Christian.

The analogy is that the “ borders are borders “ argument so used by the EU to condemn Russia in Crimea were shattered in the case of Kosovo
Tough luck Serbia

Yet we have idiots wanting war with Russia because the Russian population of a cobbled together Ukraine want to secede by a vote of 97%

Now maybe if the Crimeans were muslim...

Meanwhile Turkey is about to,find out what it’s NATO allies think about borders and we seem to have a new country here named Rojava

I’m still unsure about the outcome in Syria. It is interesting that even the Arabs ran to the Kurds areas during the Chaos. It appears they trust them more than government as it was. There is a potential when this finishes for a Syria that is totally different from what proceeded it. That might be a blessing for all involved. Time will tell. Sometimes conflicts make a nation stronger.

But on the other hand, this is the Middle East.

I still hope for cooperation between Russia and US that gives some honesty to our relationships. They need not be like they have been. But trust is earned. If for attempting a better solution.

Well there you have it FRiend, the CENTCOM Commanding General (an OUTSTANDING warfighter), on camera, to CBS, talking about giving the Kurds anti-tank weapons.

Also, the reporter described the Raqqa operation as a “take no prisoners” operation.

Strong indications that Kurds have the mission to take Raqqa (not Turks), that ISIS will be defeated in detail (not allowed to retreat), and that the Turks must not attempt a full scale invasion of Kurdish areas (more likely to now include Manbij).

It could also indicate an upcoming acceleration of the timetable to assault Raqqa City.

Cheers.

Things could always change.

Talal Silo is a credible source. Joe Votel - very credible. I’d be honored to go to war under his command.

I don’t doubt him, but politicians and diplomats could always cut a different deal, or some major game changer could occur.

Bottom line: I’m betting the SDF takes Raqqa, that it will be better supported than the Manbij Operation, and that there will be no prison camp full of jihadis to deal with afterwards. I assess it now less likely that the Turks invade Rojava, but that is a long term issue, which will ebb and flow.

This article, in the Kurdish ARA News, raises a few considerations:

http://aranews.net/2017/02/top-us-general-visits-kurdish-led-sdf-troops-amidst-ongoing-raqqa-operation/

GEN Votel visited Kobani the very day after Turkish backed rebels threatened to attack Manbij.

One purpose of attacking Manbij could have been to draw Kurdish forces away from the Raqqa offensive, and delay the fall of Raqqa.

This objective may have been a key factor in the ISIS garrison of al Bab agreeing to turn the town over to the Turks - they expected heavy support to recapture their former stronghold of Manbij (under a different false flag).

Interesting how the Turks don’t seem to have a bunch of ISIS prisoners from al Bab, or any preparations for holding trials - they seem to have just joined forces, or been allowed to leave.

The Syrian Arab Army is now moving to cut the main ISIS retreat route from Syria (including Raqqa), into Turkish-controlled al Bab. Five miles from linking up with the SDF, and direct gunfights with Turks reported to have taken place.

If Turkey goes to war with Syria itself, it will likely have to go to war with Iran as well, with Russia undercutting them from a hundred different directions. This is shaping up like the limit of advance for Turkey, and the closing of the trap for ISIS. If Syria is on board, Russia likely is as well.

What are the Syrian fighters doing wearing woodland camo instead of desert camo?

My understanding was they left. Don’t recall where they went, but it was to the east if I remember correctly.

I think I could look at a map and figure it out, if you like.

“My understanding was they left.”

Sorry, but I am unsure who you are referring to.

Reports today that the Syrian Army has closed the remaining gap NE of Aleppo, and linked up with SDF around Manbij.

That blocks Turkey from advancing to Raqqa from al Bab, blocks ISIS from escaping through Turkish-held areas, and could allow Kurds to transit supplies and reinforcements to/from Afrin, through the Syrian Army held areas.
