REQUEST PERMISSION TO COME ABOARD
CHARLESTOWN, Mass. (Jan. 14, 2008) The first major snowfall of the New Year blankets the USS Constitution. Despite the weather "Old Ironsides" remained open for free public tours. Wholehearted!
February 25, 2017
Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.
Numbers 14:24
Caleb was a wholehearted person. He and Joshua were part of a twelve-man reconnaissance team that explored the Promised Land and gave a report to Moses and the people. Caleb said, We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it (Num. 13:30). But ten members of the team said they couldnt possibly succeed. In spite of Gods promises, they saw only obstacles (vv. 3133).
Ten men caused the people to lose heart and grumble against God, which led to forty years of wandering in the desert. But Caleb never quit. The Lord said, Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it (14:24). Forty-five years later God honored His promise when Caleb, at the age of 85, received the city of Hebron because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly (Josh. 14:14).
Centuries later an expert in the law asked Jesus, Which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment (Matt. 22:3538).
Today Caleb is still inspiring us with his confidence in a God who deserves our wholehearted love, reliance, and commitment.
Lord, may we love You wholeheartedly today and follow You every day of our journey on this earth.
Commitment to Christ is a daily calling.
The ten spies found the Anakim a daunting challenge because they viewed them in comparison to themselves. Joshua and Caleb, however, viewed them in comparison to God. Many of lifes circumstanceshealth concerns, relationship struggles, financial setbackscan either be viewed in comparison to our own frailties or in the light of our all-powerful God.

Hi Everybody!
71 degrees today!
We went to the BIG dog park next to the ocean. Penny had a WONDERFUL time. I am glad she had no desire to go into the ocean, because with her strength and vigor she might have swum to England.

A short story about things which happened almost 50 years ago: When my children were 13 and 10, respectively, and when we would go to the mall as a family to shop, I would walk into Macy's or Sears or whatever store, walk up to one of the mannequins and start a conversation with the mannequin. The wife would simply roll her eyes and keep walking as if she did not know any of us. My two children thought that I was the funniest and coolest dad on the planet. They would laugh themselves silly as I made it seem like the mannequin was answering me. Of course, everyone else in the store would look at all of us as if we had lost our minds.
After several years of this nonsense and every time we went to the mall I would always start a conversation with the very first mannequin in the store.
But then one day something happened. We went into a department store and I started a conversation with a mannequin. My 16-year-old daughter said, "DADDY! What are you doing? Please stop that! You're embarrassing me! What if one of my friends sees us and sees you talking to a mannequin?" My 13-year-old son simply shook his head, rolled his eyes and mumbled something.
I simply do not understand it. Perhaps one or more of the Canteen divas can clue me in as to what happened to my daughter and son!
