President Trumps speech today at CPAC is expected to be one of gratitude and celebration. However, six years ago the tone was much different. When he was just a billionaire property developer and reality TV star, Donald Trump went to CPAC with the hopes of building a little conservative street cred among a group that really wasnt sure they wanted him there. In fact, its been reported that Mr. Trump had to purchase his speaking slot with a donation to the events host, the American Conservative Union.

It seems like just about every day so far when I read FR I think God Hillary didn’t win.
He’s getting a great reception. Watching it on C-SPAN now.
Where’s the Live Thread? ;-)
Trump isn’t conservative in what people think of establishment conservatives.
But the President is plenty conservative when it comes to his policies.
To think Reagan addressed the same conference back in 1981.
This is a great speech (it’s on CSPAN). I wish there were an insert showing liberal heads exploding!
He is reiterating what he has done and what he will do, it’s really great to know we are going to take back this country.
He’s pushing the conservative agenda far more than even Reagan did. These nittpickers who say the president isn’t enough of a conservative ideologue for their tastes need to shut up. They’re all talk. The president is showing them that actions speak louder than words.
Hitting on every mole in the whack a hole
He’s got a new trim on haircut. Melania must have seen yesterday’s programs It was getting a bit shaggy
Where are PRyno and Ditch?
His response was to work nearly 24/7 to build a trust with a base of nationalist and conservative supporters. He did this by taking on an important and controversial issue - illegal immigration, and being the only candidate to support law enforcement while his rivals were debating the best way to give illegals amnesty. He was also unafraid to defy the party elites on trade and foreign policy issues. The fact that he was a fighter willing to stand up to both liberal Democrats and establishment Republicans is what gave him "street cred."
In spite of being a billionaire and a celebrity, candidate Trump showed genuine humility and respect towards his supporters. He knew that he had to earn our respect and trust, and so he did and continues to by trying his best to fulfill campaign promises. This is in sharp contrast to the arrogance of candidates like Clinton and Bush, who think that their family name, connections, and the workings of the political machine entitle them to high office.
It’s a good idea. Some enterprising videographer can dub the crying liberal videos in the lower corner. It would absolutely make watching much more fun!
