President Trump's promise of increased enforcement of immigration laws is already having an effect. Mexican restaurants are experiencing a downturn of business.
Cesar Rodriguez, who runs a tamale restaurant on Staten Island with his mother, says customers are staying away. On a good Sunday, the Staten Island tamale restaurant run by Cesar Rodriguez and his mother makes $3,000. Since the start of the year, it has averaged only $1,500, and this past Sunday only $700.
Mr. Rodriguez, who was brought to New York when he was 13 and has temporary protection from deportation under an Obama-era program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, said he thought undocumented residents were saving their money in case they were detained. They may also be reluctant to leave the house for fear of immigration agents stalking outside.
They are listening to fake news, he said. Even if its not true, they are afraid.

What's next? Will big city Walmart parking lots suddenly become safe to walk around in? Will English once again become the language of choice in 7-11s?
Just got to love this, round them up-head then out!!!
Imagine a life with no tacos and no burritos. One of the things I hate about living in the southwest is that everyone expects you to choke down “Mexican food” 24/7/365.
*smiles*
One of our local Tex Mex joints posted an add saying they were hiring for all positions. Not sure if it’s because of ICE crackdown or maybe they fired a bunch of people for not showing up for work during Day Without An Immigrant.
Next month, Mrs BN & I are flying home from Belize to the States via Cancun.
Hopefully, the Mexican immigration officials won’t give us a “retaliatory” hassle as we depart Belize.
:-)
Rolling rolling rolling. keep them doggies movin’ - rawhide.

It would be really refreshing here in Arizona to see the spanish language commercials and billboards go away.
As they should when you're breaking the law. All the bleeding hearts need to realize that this is NOT a new policy. It's simply enforcement of existing laws since Dufus left office.
Do you like Belize? Was there once, before they bulldozed the archaeology, quite the third world experience, and contrast. Got a kick out of seeing guards with sub-machine guns outside the Western Union office, see commercials at home telling me I should retire there, but really haven’t had the desire to go back.
So he is illegal and complaining because other illegals arent eating there.
Usually MSM would be saying women and children hardest hit-but soon will be immigration lawyers in homeless shelters unable to pay for their lavish lifestyles- oh the hugh manatee
His mother is likely illegal as well.
She isn’t protected by DACA, is she? Send her back
When so many illegals have been deported that none of them are driving through strip-mall parking lots selling tamales out of coolers in car trunks, he'll be doing better.
I agree. Painting all the buildings yellow and red is a little annoying also.
Lol. I used to teach ESL for adults at a community college. I usually had around 25 students in my class. Occasionally only about 3 or 4 would be in attendance, so I would say to those students that it looks like INS was making rounds that day, and they would laugh and say yes.
What amazed me was that some of those students had been here for many years and never had learned enough English to get by in normal activities.
Trump is already improving the collective health of the nation.
Chinese restaurants will also be hit hard.
You bet!
In our small town police will often park a police car near a troublesome intersection. People slow down and look around for the officer. You never know if they are there are not.
Immigration should do that as well. Park well marked vehicles where they know illegals hang out.
Make some real, some fake. They will never know for sure.
I am all for making it uncomfortable for illegals in this country. We may not be able to round them all up but we should have them thinking they may be next.
