The National Weather Service in Reno, Nevada is warning of an "imminent" dam break about 85 miles northeast of the Reno-Lake Tahoe area.
The NWS is urging people to evacuate immediately.

It was US 99. California, Oregon and Washington retired the US 99 designation in 1965 when I-5 was laid over much of it.
Which one went to Cave Junction, Ore? That’s where my aunt lived. First and last time I ever made that drive - 1965.
I-5-—though as Publius points out, it may have been 99 at the time.
Thanks. That does job my memory. I’ve been mostly out of State for almost 3 decades now.
Kind of weird that a Nevada evacuation notice is coming from Ohio!
Might have been 99, I just don’t remember. :)
Yes, Pacheco pass from Gilroy & Morgan Hill over to Los Banos ...
I remember that name now.
I just checked the map, and Casa de Fruta is there, albeit a lot larger than it was way back when.
Grants Pass —is— a long way ... 101 up to San Francisco, go over the Bay bridge to get to I-5 near Sacramento and then up that long winding part of I-5 past Mount Shasta, then through Medford ...
Whew, a looong way.
There’s still a section of I-99 between Sacramento and Bakersfield.
I-5 was built to the west, as a faster route; 99 went through all the towns in the valley.
Felt like a 1000 miles to a 18yr old, driving through the night after getting off work. And spilling black coffee over my white bell bottoms. I’ll never forget that. :/
Thanks. Haven’t heard that song for a LONG time.
Don’t jinx us with the wind. Replaced the fence a few times already!
Getting me hungry for Basque food after this storm and its damage blows through.
LOL. Yes the last one through took out panels on my greenhouse and loosened panels on the barn. It was a nasty one.
One thing about northern Nevada. It’s either raining or snowing or hot or windy or three out of four at once. I will say though, I love the high desert basin.
DOT closed I80 at the state line through a significant chunk of Placer County.
I think for the best Basque food you will have to go south to Gardnerville, Minden. That’s only based on what I hear, having never eaten there.
Sorry that happened to your property.
Won’t forget asking the home insurance rep if they had a product specifically for the Washoe Zephyr. Looked at me like I had three heads. I said, “Oh, you must be new in town!”
LOL. Yeh, we just get out the screws and put things back together. If I put in a claim every time I had wind damage here that’s all I’d be doing. Now if it takes the whole barn roof I’ll call.
In California, Oregon and Washington, there are stretches of CA 99, OR 99 and WA 99 that still maintain the original route of the old US 99. In northern Oregon where the old US 99 split into US 99E and US 99W, Oregon maintains the split as OR 99E and OR 99W.
Long border with mountains along it - rain will run off in either downhill direction.
