WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- A Whittier police officer was killed and another was wounded when they were fired upon while responding to a traffic accident Monday morning, authorities said.

The suspect, described as a "gang member type," was also in stable condition at the hospital. The identities of those involved in the incident were not immediately released.

During the press conference the suspect was described as a known male Hispanic gang member that was just released from prison last week. They have not released his name as of yet.

I also wonder if he’s illegal, and if so, how many times he’s been deported.

The Sheriff’s lieutenant who led the news conference said he had a long criminal record. These individuals should never see the light of day.
