ICE Agents Arrest Men Leaving Alexandria Church Shelter
NBC Washington ^ | Feb 15, 2017 | Julie Carey

Some are questioning the way Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are handling arrests in Fairfax County after at least two men were arrested near a church shelter.

Oscar Ramirez said he had just left the hypothermia shelter at Rising Hope Mission Church on Russell Road in Alexandria, Virginia, when about a dozen ICE agents surround him and other Latino men.

"'Stop right there. Stop right there. Stop right there. Stay by the wall, where we can see your hands,'" the agents said, according to Ramirez.

The group of men had left the shelter about 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8 and crossed the street when the ICE agents ordered them to stand against a brick wall.

Ramirez said the agents questioned all of them and scanned their fingers to find out if they had criminal backgrounds. Agents quickly cleared Ramirez, who has a green card, he said.

But he and other witnesses told News4 that about six Latino men were arrested and taken away in two vans that pulled up to the area where they had been stopped.

"This is the first time I see something like that," Ramirez said. "It surprised me. I mean, I think it surprised a lot of people who seen it actually happen," said Marvin Roach, a guest at the church shelter.

"They were clearly targeting the church because they knew that they stayed here in the hypothermia shelter. So they were waiting for them to cross the street and then jump on them," said Rising Hope Mission Church Rev. Keary Kincannon.

An ICE spokeswoman said the agency's "sensitive location" policy was followed. The policy requires agents to avoid arresting people at places of worship, schools and medical facilities. The spokeswoman emphasized the arrests took place across the street from the church and not on church property.

The humanitarian thing to do. They’re better suited for warmer climes.

Isn't a permanent hypothermia solution - deportation to south of the border - better than a mere temporary hypothermia shelter (funded by American taxpayers)?

So these stories are still filtering down from last week. I was hoping this new arrests in this new week, and that this was to be a continuing pattern. More arrests, please, and more trumpeting of them in all the media!

If they need more to do, I can show them several places in the Richmond area that are target rich environments.

OK Thank you.
Question if you don’t mind.
The Marine Corps has a civilian police force. Would that come under national defense you think?

A few questions, perhaps:

#1: What is a “hypothemria shelter”? If it is simply a warm place out of the cold, why not say so?

#2: Is any government money (really taxpayers’ money) paying for such “treatments?” For example, is this “church” tax-exempt, thereby forcing other property owners to pay increased property taxes because their “church” property if off the tax rolls?

#3: John Dillinger was once asked “why do you rob banks?” He answered, “Because that’s where the money is!” Would the advocates for allowing these criminals to remain in OUR country suggest ICE agents would be more effective looking for illegals outside the Hay Adams Hotel or Washington Cathedral than near a Hypothermia Shelter known to be frequented by illegals?

(Of course, that question probably makes the invalid assumption that these people want ICE agents to be effective!)

Notice how ABC writer Julie Carey screws up the locations in the first couples of sentences. “Fairfax County” abuts Alexandria City but they are two completely independent political entities.

While this might seem like a minor matter, you would expect a professional reporter and editor to catch a mistake like this (Do they still have proofreaders? It’s been many decades since I did that kind of work).

And, if the men arrested were checked for fingerprints pertaining to criminal charges, then why shouldn’t they be arrested and checked? They could be serious threats to society or guys with minor convictions, or outstanding warrants.

Perhaps Carey should check the police booking sheets to see what they are charged with.

“Anywhere with valuable stuff not bolted down”
That goes double for yard sales!
They like to arrive in mobs and get between the owner and the sale stuff and fill pockets etc.
A friend related how she saw a child’s shoe drop from a guy’s pocket as he was getting into his truck and scooped it up and tossed it at the “dropper” while yelling, “Here, I’ll bet your kid has TWO feet”!

“professional reporter and editor”

Years ago, my firm represented many network-level reporters in their contract negotiations, etc.

They are all gone, replaced by “The News Children”

No hiring freeze for national defense and law enforcement (under this President).

I think the police force for the Marines is the Navy Shore Patrol if not MP's (Military Police)...They aren't civilians

There is a marine corps civilian police dept. My son is a marine and sees them every day on base, and I was applying for a position.
