Throughout the presidential campaign, Donald Trump pledged to take action on a host of issues, as all candidates tend to do when running for election. Now that he's president, Trump is actually following through.
One of those pledges was a promise to enforce existing U.S. immigration laws, including the deportation of those who entered the country illegally.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Trump “pressed ahead with his immigration crackdown” this week, “launching deportation raids across the U.S.”
The Independent was even more dramatic:
“Panic” and “terror” is said to be running through immigrant communities in the U.S. following raids carried out across at least six states as part of Donald Trump’s pledge to crack down on illegal immigrants.
The Daily Beast reported that Trump's “deportation force” conducted an “enforcement surge” in multiple cities around the country:
Over the last five days, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted what they call an “enforcement surge” in the Los Angeles area, arresting more than 160 undocumented immigrants.
Immigrants’ rights groups and lawyers told The Daily Beast that ICE also increased its enforcement activities—including, in some cases, in apartment buildings—in a number of cities around the country, including Atlanta, Phoenix, Charlotte, and Austin.
The Independent quoted Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Gillian Christensen, who said the “raids” conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), were part of “routine” immigration enforcement actions:
“We’re talking about people who are threats to public safety or a threat to the integrity of the immigration system.”
But Cristina Jimenez, executive director of United We Dream, has a different take:
“This is clearly the first wave of attacks under the Trump administration, and we know this isn’t going to be the only one."
Sarah Owings, an immigration attorney in Atlanta, sounded a similar alarm:
“The muscle to do this kind of stuff is here — it’s just that the leash has been taken off. They’re out and they’re hunting. They’re picking up and rounding up anyone they can get."
Listening to the critics one would think that America is a police state, with a Gestapo-like force rounding up panicked and terrorized innocents in the middle of the night, rather than a country attempting to enforce its immigration laws — not only for the protection of its indigenous citizens, but for its legal immigrants as well.
“According to ICE, these raids and arrests were planned BEFORE Trump took office. Obama was still in office.”
To what end? Another ‘landmine’ left by 0bama, thinking the removal of illegals would HARM him?
ICE suddenly grew balls? LOL!
I can only hope so, an illegal does not have an ounce of right to be in this country, they are citizens of their own countries and there is nothing good about coming here illegally.
News travels fast thru the illegal community and they often over-react. We need them to know there was an illegal woman in Texas who was just sentenced to 8 years in prison for voting in elections going back to 2012.
Get this word out and they won’t vote in the mid-terms.
That was just one angle of the vote fraud; include the (American) people voting twice and the felons voting as well...
Just think about this for a moment. Illegals are working around aircraft. Talk about a security risk! These illegals are inside TAS. Time to secure the plane area. Big, big problem.

Things would really start moving if at some point we start arresting and punishing officials of the companies who hire illegals. The higher the official, the better. They need to require e-verify and get things in place so that the company officials can be held liable for employing illegals.
Those are good paying jobs.
You are correct. And it needs to be said more often. The legal immigrant community is not panicked over these moves.
They have been doing this on and off for the past year, it’s just that the press is reporting it now.
The plan was, prior to the election, ICE would go out and make some arrests. These would be people who were no danger to US citizens, like females who had been here for 20 years and worked as maids.
They would make a court case out of it, and the illegal alien plaintiff would win the case. The government would back down, and the new President would officially revise the immigration laws to conform.
BUT, Hillary didn't win. It was all for naught, and now they have no choice but to actually deal with the problem. They can't just stop because Trump won. It would look like they weren't doing their job.
The old game was to selectively deport illegals based on bribery from corporations that use illegals. The new game is that the law is the law. Many don't like the new game, but that's tough.
Yes, so if you don’t want to get picked up by Trump’s Gestapo, I recommend that you pack your bags and head for the border ASAP.

The “Gestapo,” as directed by the Chief Executive, is apprehending illegal aliens who have violated laws enacted by Congress. Do you see a problem with that?
And drive big rig trucks. And operate heavy equipment. And mow your lawn. And cook your food.
Oh you’re right about that and guess what? Most fraudulent votes are for dems.
You mean we might have to mow our own yards ?
And give thanks to Trump for actually proceeding and executing these raids. Look for many more to come.
