Throughout the presidential campaign, Donald Trump pledged to take action on a host of issues, as all candidates tend to do when running for election. Now that he's president, Trump is actually following through.
One of those pledges was a promise to enforce existing U.S. immigration laws, including the deportation of those who entered the country illegally.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Trump pressed ahead with his immigration crackdown this week, launching deportation raids across the U.S.
The Independent was even more dramatic:
Panic and terror is said to be running through immigrant communities in the U.S. following raids carried out across at least six states as part of Donald Trumps pledge to crack down on illegal immigrants.
The Daily Beast reported that Trump's deportation force conducted an enforcement surge in multiple cities around the country:
Over the last five days, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted what they call an enforcement surge in the Los Angeles area, arresting more than 160 undocumented immigrants.
Immigrants rights groups and lawyers told The Daily Beast that ICE also increased its enforcement activitiesincluding, in some cases, in apartment buildingsin a number of cities around the country, including Atlanta, Phoenix, Charlotte, and Austin.
The Independent quoted Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Gillian Christensen, who said the raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), were part of routine immigration enforcement actions:
Were talking about people who are threats to public safety or a threat to the integrity of the immigration system.
But Cristina Jimenez, executive director of United We Dream, has a different take:
This is clearly the first wave of attacks under the Trump administration, and we know this isnt going to be the only one."
Sarah Owings, an immigration attorney in Atlanta, sounded a similar alarm:
The muscle to do this kind of stuff is here its just that the leash has been taken off. Theyre out and theyre hunting. Theyre picking up and rounding up anyone they can get."
Listening to the critics one would think that America is a police state, with a Gestapo-like force rounding up panicked and terrorized innocents in the middle of the night, rather than a country attempting to enforce its immigration laws not only for the protection of its indigenous citizens, but for its legal immigrants as well.
This is clearly the first wave of attacks under the Trump administration, and we know this isnt going to be the only one.”
No, it is clearly the first wave of enforcing the law.
“Panic” and “terror” is exactly what I want criminals to be experiencing. All day. Every day.
Not tired of this winning!
Once again, President Trump does what he said he would. How can that shock anyone? What a three weeks this has been!!
Yes, so if you don't want to get picked up by Trump's Gestapo, I recommend that you pack your bags and head for the border ASAP.
Never felt safer and frankly better fir those in the L E community to be able to do their sworn duty.

According to ICE, these raids and arrests were planned BEFORE Trump took office.
Obama was still in office.
I have posted this on several other threads, but I was flying from Los Angeles to Seattle yesterday. When we arrived in Seattle are jet was trapped on the tarmac for more than an hour because a bunch of planes were lined up waiting to use are gate.
Apparently and this is according to the pilot, a significant number of ground crew workers failed to show up for work in the morning.....he said this was highly unusual and it was the same information we received in the morning when we left Seattle to go to Los Angeles, and we were delayed because they were short personnel
What was left and said was that these were a bunch of workers who were afraid they were going to get rounded up and deported.
Oh the money and problems he’s going to save America. Now if we can have open or concealed carry and can get used to thwarting terrorist attacks without military style police units every time. If we see what looks like a Muslim planting a bomb we can stop him in his steps and call the police to arrest him unless our finger accidentally slips and he can’t be put on trial because he’s on a slab...
Panic and terror is said to be running through immigrant communities

Blatant lie.
We have immigrants right here on Free Republic who are not only not concerned but are cheering these moves on, because the people targeted are not immigrants, but illegal aliens.
Illegal aliens have always been subject to deportation, we just did not have a President willing to enforce the laws.
Starting with the illegal aliens already convicted of other crimes is smart, but we should deport ANY illegal alien we come across. We must not be satisfied with only deporting the criminals, there are NO “otherwise law-abiding” illegal aliens. In order to remain here illegally, they MUST commit other crimes.
Illegal employment and document fraud are the least of these.
Waiting until they harm of kill Americans is irresponsible policy.
Hasta La Vista mi amigo extranjeros ilegales. Sr. Trump es muy bueno!
Spread the word far and wide! Let the self deportations begin.
Something for the immigration reform folks need to keep in mind. This is what it looks like. Enforcement first and a wall. Then we’ll talk about the million or so hold-outs.
You will only have to deport the first million or two ... the other 40 million will self deport.
Border defense shouldn’t be confined to the border:
For many years it was a reasonable fear you could be at a company in the USA interior, working illegal, and ICE/BP would show up, grabbing people.
Invasion shouldn’t involve sweating it across the border, then being “home free” in the interior.
They should always have fear in the back of their minds of being picked up.
In Japan all foreigners are required to carry a Foreigner ID Card at all times.
You need it to register a bike, to rent DVD’s, to visit a clinic or the hospital or dentist, you must show it for very many things.
Japan is the 3rd biggest economy and grappling with a shortage of young, strong people yet the total number of illegals is probably 0.5 million, mostly Chinese and Koreans.
Did ICE constantly make those plans only to have them stomped down by Obama's political appointees? Or did they just start to get serious on 11/9?
Even if they can't catch them all, they can get the illegals scared and constantly on the move, which makes them unreliable employees and therefore less valuable to hire for anything other than day labor. If you want someone who can work in your kitchen tomorrow and next week you'll have to hire a citizen or legal immigrant. Winning!
Enforcement of Existing Laws!
Absolutely Fascinating.
No accommodations.
Changing the laws to benefit those breaking them is always bad policy.
“What was left unsaid was that these were a bunch of workers who were afraid they were going to get rounded up and deported.”
We are all going to be inconvenienced over the next months and years as many illegals go ‘back into the shadows’ before being deported.
Small price to pay for saving our country, especially when compared to the price earlier generations paid.
Tis but a flesh wound.
There is a leftist judge somewhere, in Soros’ pocket, about to render a halt to Trump’s round ups.
Music to my ears.
