CONCRETE LOVE
Our Daily Bread July 28, 1998
"Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:3
The story is told of a child psychologist who spent many hours constructing a new driveway at his home. Just after he smoothed the surface of the freshly poured concrete, his small children chased a ball across the driveway, leaving deep footprints. The man yelled after them with a torrent of angry words. His shocked wife said, "You're a psychologist who's supposed to love children." The fuming man shouted, "I love children in the abstract, not in the concrete!"
I chuckled at the alleged incident and groaned at the play on words, but the story rang true for me. While I agree in principle with the concept of self-giving love, I find myself failing to express it to the people I live and work with each day. First Corinthians 13 describes Christian love in terms of its tangible expression: "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil" (vv.4-5). As a theory, love isn't worth much; as a practice, it is the world's greatest treasure. When footprints are in the driveway, people discover whether our love exists in the abstract or in the concrete. -- DCM
"Follow with reverent steps the great example of Him whose holy work was doing good: so shall the wide earth seem out Father's temple, each loving life a psalm of gratitude.
Love is an active verb!

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
Psalm 130:7 & 8

Look What Jesus Has Done
February 12, 2017
See that you . . . excel in this grace of giving.
2 Corinthians 8:7
The little boy was only eight when he announced to his parents friend Wally, I love Jesus and want to serve God overseas someday. During the next ten years or so, Wally prayed for him as he watched him grow up. When this young man later applied with a mission agency to go to Mali, Wally told him, Its about time! When I heard what you wanted to do, I invested some money and have been saving it for you, waiting for this exciting news. Wally has a heart for others and for getting Gods good news to people.
Jesus and His disciples needed financial support as they traveled from one town and village to another, telling the good news of His kingdom (Luke 8:13). A group of women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases helped to support them out of their own means (v. 3). One was Mary Magdalene, who had been freed from the presence of seven demons. Another was Joanna, the wife of an official in Herods court. Nothing is known about Susanna and many others (v. 3), but we know that Jesus had met their spiritual needs. Now they were helping Him and His disciples through giving their financial resources.
When we consider what Jesus has done for us, His heart for others becomes our own. Lets ask God how He wants to use us.
How might you be a part of getting the good news of salvation to people in your neighborhood and around the world? Tell someone the story of what Jesus has done for you. Write a note of encouragement to someone. Share a gift with a missionary. Pray.
Jesus gave His all; He deserves our all.
Jesus honored a sinful woman who washed His feet with her tears, wiped them dry with her hair, and then poured out an expensive flask of perfume on His feet (Luke 7:3650). Assuring the woman that her sins were forgiven, Jesus tells disgusted religious leaders that she is an example of one who having been forgiven much loves all the more (v. 47). It is in this context that we read that some women who had been cured of evil spirits and various diseases traveled with Jesus to support Him and His disciples out of their own means. Maybe we can ask ourselves: What grace and mercy have we received that gives us reason to give attention, respect, comfort, and encouragement to others?

Good evening, Sand...((HUGS))...a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
The blizzard warning seems to have been a false alarm. Today was a beautiful sunny, blue sky day, but only 7 degrees at the highest.
Hope you all had a nice Saturday.
