Assad says US troops welcome in Syria to fight 'terrorism'

BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian President Bashar Assad said in an interview released on Friday that the United States is welcome to join the battle against "terrorists" in Syria — as long as it is in cooperation with his government and respects the country's sovereignty.

Speaking with Yahoo News, Assad said he has not had any communication — direct or indirect — with President Donald Trump or any official form the new U.S. administration.

But the Syrian leader appeared to make a gesture to the new U.S. president in the interview, saying he welcomes Trump's declaration that he will make it a priority to fight terrorism — a goal Assad said he also shares.

However, Assad's government has labelled all armed opposition to his rule — including the U.S.-backed rebels — as "terrorists."

"We agree about this priority," Assad said of Trump. "That's our position in Syria, the priority is to fight terrorism."

Did I say they aren’t?
Of course they are, they’ve been fighting ISIS, AQ and it’s AQ’s offshoots such as Al Nusra. Fact.

That is part of Erdogan’s mess. The side switchers put him in the clamp with them.

Would like to know the reality of the defeat Turkey has had in Al Bab. Reports are he lost 54 tanks (and crews?) Got arrogant drove tanks into urban area? Hit first & last tank, then turkey shoot?

Bad scenario.

>>”That is part of Erdogan’s mess.”<<

Al Bab aside for a minute.

Currently Erdogan seems to have his hands full in anticipation with domestic issues.

For example, an upcoming referendum for Turkey’s Constitution (the secular one from long ago, remember?). He is trying to change it. If he does/can, it’d mean, among other things, this: “Erdogan will become the sole executive head of state, with the authority to choose his own cabinet ministers, enact laws, call elections, and declare states of emergency.”

More tomorrow..

Yes, fully aware of what he is facing. If he looses, he will be facing some real reckoning.

I just want to stuff them all back into the Middle East and then, get the heck out. If we have energy independence and lower oil prices, that should reduce Saudi’s ability to finance their terrorists. Eventually, if we stay out, the people over there might just take care of the house of Saud.

I remember when Iran was a rather modern country, and the people seemed to like America. IIRC, the Shah wanted better terms for Iran when it came to renew the lease on the oil. Carter had other ideas, and also wanted his buddies to get the lease. The USA played a part in bringing down the Shah, and returning the exiled Ayatollah, it’s pretty sad.

I don’t have any sympathy for the Mullahs of Iran, nor the Princes of Saudi Arabia. If they all disappeared tomorrow, it would be fine with me.

Great question! Include Kerry as a war criminal!

How many Syrian civilians have died because of Obama, Kerry and Hillary’s meddling? They are all war criminals.

Good homework and a good reply!

Explain how Iran is the world’s largest terror sponsor, but Saudi Arabia isn’t. Boston, Brussels, the Golden dome bombing, San Bernardino, ft hood, the moslem brotherhood, the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber, Beslan, 9/11, 7/7, Madrid, Paris, Nice, Berlin, the red arrow, two Russian airliners blown up the same day, Osama bin Laden, Kim, Anwar al alaki, the Russian airliner in the Sinai last year...all Sunni Saudi tied in. It’s a neocon Saudiphilia idea that Iran is the big problem.

Hopefully I live long enough to read about how the Saudi Opecker Princes have been $cewing Americans, killing us and having us fight their wars for at least 6 decades.

1) I bet you are. Let the US spend our money and lives on a problem so you won’t have to. Thanks for the support, Assad.

2) What does Putin have to say about this? Could we actually have Russian and Syrian LNOs in our TOCs? How weird would that be?

Putin and Donald have been talking, and the former has yanked Assad’s leash.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davy_Crockett_%28nuclear_device%29

“The M-388 would produce an almost instantly lethal radiation dosage (in excess of 10,000 rem, 100 Sv) within 500 feet (150 m), and a probably fatal dose (around 600 rem, 6 Sv) within a quarter mile (400 m)”

i.e. a dirty bomb not a nuke explosive device.

1/4 mile is pretty small kill zone.

Picture did not look like suitcase size at all. took 3 man crew to use the recoilless rifle.

if we were to do such a thing, I’d have some demands for Assad.

1. If we ever find Syria’s fingerprints on any act of terror against the US (even by proxy), you had better hide in a really really deep bunker - because we’re coming for you.

2. You can yell and scream about Israel all you want. We’re fine with that. But if your allies start launching missiles into Israel, we’re gonna green-light the Israelis to open a huge can of whoop-a** on you.
