BEIRUT (AP) Syrian President Bashar Assad said in an interview released on Friday that the United States is welcome to join the battle against "terrorists" in Syria as long as it is in cooperation with his government and respects the country's sovereignty.
Speaking with Yahoo News, Assad said he has not had any communication direct or indirect with President Donald Trump or any official form the new U.S. administration.
But the Syrian leader appeared to make a gesture to the new U.S. president in the interview, saying he welcomes Trump's declaration that he will make it a priority to fight terrorism a goal Assad said he also shares.
However, Assad's government has labelled all armed opposition to his rule including the U.S.-backed rebels as "terrorists."
"We agree about this priority," Assad said of Trump. "That's our position in Syria, the priority is to fight terrorism."

Isn't this literally what any government in 2017 would do, including First World ones? All governments would call those seeking to overthrow it through force "terrorists," no matter the reason why.
If "terrorist" was in common vernacular in the past, Lincoln would have called the Confederacy terrorists, and King George III the same with George Washington.
I think the Kurds are the best of the whole dang bunch. They have helped the USA from the git go. Political Islam (the terrorist form) is supported by Saudi dollars, and the Ayatollah’s “spiritual” directives for a Caliphate.
Can we just get out of Muslim countries and let the Muslims kill each other? Bring US troops home, put them on our borders, ban Islam in US, deport Muslims, and institute a “pet the pig” requirement to board a plane.
We have no Muslim allies. They are perfectly willing to use the US, but they will turn on us in an instant when they have the opportunity.
That makes far too much sense for it to ever happen.
Can’t islam wipe its own ass?
Sounds like we will be on the right side this time! But, I agree with others here - no boots on the ground. And for goodness sakes, we keep our weapons to ourselves. No giving anyone weapons, not even a single pistol.
Just thinking - wonder what is going through McCain’s mind right now and so many other’s who had it ALL wrong by arming the rebels.
I know, but I can dream can’t I?
all True.
Egypt, Jordan, UAE, Kuwait I would consider allies.
Most others not. Notice I did not include Turkey? Erdogan has been very unfaithful. Right now he is in deep dooo.
That will become clear in a few days.

SDF is militant jihadi, freeing raqqa with them is like having the zetas save you from sinaloa.
Almost all of the jihad and terrorism in the past 3 decades is Sunnite. Salafist, Whabbist, etc. Shites and Hezbollah have been involved in as much international terrorism in the last 3 decades as Basque separatists, Tamil Tigers, or the IRA. I know the pro-Israel rhetoric would make the average Fox News viewer think they are the worst terrorist group in the world. It’s about as accurate as saying Steve Bannon is as bad as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. And if your a HuffPo and MSM devotee you’ll accept the latter ludicrous comparison, even if only emotionally. Same with the former if you’re a Fox News/neocon true believer.
Explain how Iran is the world’s largest terror sponsor, but Saudi Arabia isn’t. Boston, Brussels, the Golden dome bombing, San Bernardino, ft hood, the moslem brotherhood, the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber, Beslan, 9/11, 7/7, Madrid, Paris, Nice, Berlin, the red arrow, two Russian airliners blown up the same day, Osama bin Laden, Kim, Anwar al alaki, the Russian airliner in the Sinai last year...all Sunni Saudi tied in. It’s a neocon Saudiphilia idea that Iran is the big problem.
...if you’re a HuffPo...
Kurds are not Jihadi’s. Arabs involved in SDF may be.
Good, Haven’t cared for Erdogan at all.
Thanks.

Agreed. Saudis are the largest terrorist sponsor in the world. Iran is a close second.
