Chris Matthews Surprisingly Skeptical on Court Ruling on Immigration Order
Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 02/10/2017 10:55:34 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Wait a second: was that Sean Hannity on Fox News? Nope, it was Chris Matthews on MSNBC last night, expressing surprising skepticism over the 9th Circuit’s decision to uphold the stay of President Trump’s executive order on immigration.Matthews made a multi-pronged attack on the ruling.

Matthews suggested political motives on the part of the Court:”so much of this court ruling is based on what they think about Trump.”

He called it “an odd ban on Muslims if it doesn’t include 95% of Muslims.”

Matthews suggested that the ruling would not have gone 3-0 against the order if it had been heard in another [less liberal] Circuit court.

But it will allow the judges to continue getting invites to beautiful people parties, so no worries.

I was making the point to Mrs. Thinking this morning about this (Trump bias at court). The last four POTI have placed a total of 42 holds, and noone said a word. Ebola did it more than any of the others, even. And then the law that explicitly says in so many words the Admin has the authority to do this. It’s all about what they feel about Trump personally.

For as liberal as he is, he is always a national security type guy. Probably due to his upbringing.

Welcome to the "real world" of courts and judges. It is never about the law. The law is just a bunch of fancy talk to hide the real reason for the decision.

He’s a liberal, but more of an old-school liberal than a new-school antifa jackboot/snowflake.

Agreed. I’ve written before that I believe he has a patriotic streak. He’s a lib but more of an old-fashioned one.

Judge Jeanine said last night she believes that even in a 4/4 Supreme Court, that the 9th Court would be overturned!

How’s that for a solid case? She thinks that’s how absolutely obvious it is that the law favors the president, as Commander in Chief.

A judge who ignores the law is a so-called judge

Nice that she believes that, but I wouldn’t want to gamble on it until Gorsuch gets there, maybe not even then with Kennedy still there. We live in preposterous times.

Another problem with the ruling that no one mentions is that Trump’s case, which is based on a Conservative interpretation of the Constitution, was prepared by employees of the U.S. Department of Justice who are overwhelmingly Leftist.

I don’t know anything about the lead DOJ attorney, maybe he is actually a Conservative.

But a great general has very little value if his troops refuse to fight.

Two things jump out at me about the two appeals.

(1) The issue of “standing,” which is of paramount importance in federal cases, was never even discussed by the DOJ attorneys.

(2) The statute that outlines the president’s immigration powers could not be more clear. But, the DOJ attorneys never even asked the appellate judges what Constitutional principles were violated by the Executive Order.

The first plane load of highly suspicious immigrants should be loaded onto other airplanes (one way tickets) and sent directly to those three judges homes so said “judges” can house and feed them. Perhaps, after their wives and daughters are molested, raped or worse, all their worldly personal belongings have been stolen and/or destroyed they just might go back and read the damn laws that say they made a grave mistake by going against the American people and their leader Donald Trump.

No, he’s not in the way that you imply. I don’t watch him any longer, haven’t for years and years, because I figured out his schtick many years back and so can predict his take on things quite well.

Whenever his side loses, he comes out against the right driven mostly by his Roman Catholic liberalism.

Whenever his side wins, he comes out cautioning his followers on the left that the ‘win’ is ephemeral.

In this case, he knows the ruling will not stand and is informing his leftist friends not to lose their energy and momentum.

Matthews is and will ever be a hard-core leftist ideologue with a liberal Catholic temperament. He is actually quite boring because his views are nothing new and his ratings reflect the boredom he conveys.

There are other liberals who are much smarter than Matthews who are presently formulating a different approach to regaining an edge over conservatives.

With the seemingly slothful inaction of present republicans in Congress, the smart liberals may gain that edge quickly and the President’s movement will be further impeded.

The GOP Congress had better get their butts in gear else boring predictable commentators like Matthews will succeed in giving a more persuasive voice to his fellow liberals.

If Obama had made this executive order would the results have been the same? Obviously no.

I agree I could not take such a risk, either.

There are other options on the table to address refugees and southern invaders. We can take on the 9th Circuit later.

Our State Department is still doubling down on open borders and refugees. Pretty shocking insubordination to Trump.

Scoop Jackson kind...old school. They don’t make them that way anymore. Pity.

Chris has always loved America. He’s uninformed and misguided, but not like the new breed of left.

It’s gone way past interference with the President’s authority—it’s circumventing established Congressional legislation and usurping the Supreme Courts exclusive purview in this case. Congress especially must act or become irrelevant.
