An Arizona woman who has lived in the U.S. for more than two decades was arrested Wednesday night after her regular check-in with immigration officials and has been deported to Mexico. She was sent to Nogales, Mexico, on Thursday, reports Katherine Fritcke of member station KJZZ.
Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos' deportation which has been protested by dozens of activists, some of whom were arrested late Wednesday is a glimpse of how immigration enforcement is changing under the Trump administration.
She had had a deportation order against her for several years but was not considered a priority for deportation during the Obama administration. But two weeks ago, President Trump issued an executive order changing deportation priorities; Garcia de Rayos is believed to be one of the first people deported under that expanded enforcement.
The New York Times reports that Garcia de Rayos, now 35, was just 14 when she "sneaked across the border" from a poor district in Mexico into southern Arizona.

I believe it was identity theft.
Zero Fraks given.
She committed felony ID theft, she’s a convicted felon.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t this “poor, innocent immigrant” convicted of a felony?
Too bad some folks from our side didn’t counter-demonstrate.
I have had my ID stolen it sucks. My only issue is she wasn’t kicked out of this country right after she plead guilt.
Personally, I think this was a bit of a set-up. Trump has said that he wanted to deal with the very worst offenders first and then down the list.
I think someone at a mid-level wanted to create a “bad optics” headache for Trump with this particular case off the bat. Perhaps not. But if this gets the ball rolling to sending back illegals and easing the burden on citizens, I’m for it.
Probably the best message that can be taken from it is that the administration won’t scruple: if you’re here illegally and you’re caught, you be an probably count on a one-way ticket to your native country. Hardened criminal or docile recipient of unearned program benefits, it doesn’t matter.
The whole thing was a set up.
If this is the parasite I’m thinking of, she has a 2009 felony *conviction* for IDENTITY THEFT.
She’ll be back by the weekend.
I heard she had committed a felony along the way, so that is what got her deported.
arrested for ID theft too, but of course the biased liberal NPR only wants to give us sob stories.
Hannity said she was convicted of identity theft. Now that is unusual, since everyone knows that no illegal immigrant would dare break the law, even if they knew that they could get away with it, unlike Americans.
Yes, I’m waiting for that shoe to drop, too. I expect activists to send her all the money and legal help she needs to return ASAP.
How much is a birthing experience these days? All these anchor babies start 18 years public assistance with a free birth.
Of course it was. She gets a free trip back home to visit relatives and the libs get a poster child...
We either have laws or we don’t have them.
She won the lottery and got to live here 20 years longer than she deserved to, or was legally allowed to. Quit while you are ahead ma’am.
Her husband described her as a model citizen!
Maybe she stole the identity of a model citizen.
