A group of Republican senior statesmen are pushing for a carbon tax to combat the effects of climate change, and hoping to sell their plan to the White House.
Former Secretary of State Jim Baker is leading the effort, which also includes former Secretary of State George Shultz
The group will meet Wednesday with White House officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, senior adviser Jared Kushner, and Gary Cohn, director of the National Economic Council.
Also supporting Baker's effort are Hank Paulson, treasury secretary for former President George W. Bush; Greg Mankiw, who chaired Bush's Council of Economic Advisers; and Marty Feldstein, chairman of President Ronald Reagan's Council of Economic Advisors, according to the person familiar with the plans.
Carbon tax legislation is unlikely to receive a warm welcome in the GOP-controlled Congress, where Republicans were staunchly opposed to Obama's climate agenda.

These two dipshits should be wearing straight jackets and locked up in a rubber room with drool cups.
This is going nowhere faster than my diet.
Statesmen equal One World Government leftovers like Baker and GWB, #### em.
Trump will let them meet with Pence and then forget the meeting ever happened.
If he hasn’t already.
jibe...
Schultz? Baker? Their days in the sun are over.
Are they senile or just stupid? They were once pretty sharp. Not now.
Thanks. LOL I like jive better even if it’s wrong. Jive talkin’. I just love having my grammar corrected.
Globalist congress wants to hold on their gravy train as long as they can.
Schultz is 96, and Baker is 86. These are yesterday’s leaders who basically have no influence now. They represent the past. Their time is over. To suggest otherwise is basically fake news.
Two Putzes that convinced Reagan into Signing the Amnesty bill in return for funding for a border wall.
How’d that work out for us.

“Politicians still trying to come up with ways to steal money from American working families”
certain politicians, usually mostly democrats, have never met a tax they didn’t like: including obamacare.
now these money grubbing elite GOP types are pretending that they too are really concerned about the sky is falling climate change. when all they are really after is the money that can be sucked out of every taxpayer’s pocket.
remember, wasn’t Paulson the one, who made the taxpayer pick up the tab for all the bad investments of the too big to fail banks?
hopefully, Trump isn’t suckered into this nonsense. anyone or company supporting this must be expecting a big payback for their business investments in this pseudo-science.
are they too stupid to know that if Trump removes all these ridiculous EPA regulations, that they won’t need to expend all this extra money to try and remove the CO2 their businesses may be producing? which, by the way, CO2 is absolutely necessary for plants to grow and produce the oxygen that we need as humans to survive?
Just say NO!
Physorg pretends to be a scientific journal. It is in fact a propaganda outlet for the greenies nonsense, pushing hard the global warming & renewable energies scams.
Their climate activism is like poison in the well, it discredits everything else that they publish.
A lot of folks have fallen for the Global Warming scam, because they have accepted, unquestioningly, the word of scientists who are being paid handsomely, in grants, to push it.
“GOP senior statesmen making push for a carbon tax.
WHY!”
They’re not happy that we’re back to having a 2-party political system.
“Meant Brain Trust.”
Pretty sure Jeb spells it like in your first post.
