Throughout the course of 2016, 532 asylum seekers voluntarily left Denmark, numbers from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) released this week revealed.
According to broadcaster DR, which first reported on the statistics, that is the highest number ever and also the first time that asylum seekers leaving Denmark on their own accord outnumber those whose applications were rejected.
Three out of four of those who left did so before their cases had been processed. According to Jacob Jørgensen, an IOM spokesman in Copenhagen, most of those who left returned to Iran, Iraq or Afghanistan. There were also a significant number of voluntary returns among nationals of Russia and Ukraine.
Many cited long waiting times in Danish asylum centres, ill family members in their home countries and false expectations as the primary reasons for leaving.
There are probably just as many reasons as there are people. We often hear about illness in the family causing people to want to quickly return home. Others are disappointed because their expectations, which may have been built up by human smugglers, did not match reality, Jørgensen told news agency Ritzau.
The Danish Refugee Council cautioned against drawing the conclusion that those who left Denmark didnt need help to begin with.
Some of them may have travelled back and then left their home countries again to seek asylum again. But beyond that I would say that if people dont want to seek asylum in Denmark then it is fine that they go back [home] again, the councils head of asylum, Eva Singer, told DR.
Denmark, with its population of 5.7 million, accepted 6,072 asylum seekers in 2016, a sharp drop-off from the roughly 21,000 who came to the Nordic nation in 2015.
If you can go back and forth, you aren’t a refugee.
I hear stories about great grand parents who came to America. Most went through Ellis Island, had to get a job or starve, worked hard, learned English and made a success of themselves.
Today they are fed, clothed and given government housing. They don’t have to learn English, separate themselves and are disappointed they are not given more. A lot of these freeloaders have made it harder for legitimate refugees to get sympathy.
Saudi Arabia needs to be forced to start taking muzzie “refugees”. The majority of them.
>>If you can go back and forth, you arent a refugee.<<
New idea from the left: refugee tourism.
532! Five hundred thirty two! That qualifies for a “record number”-blaring headline? Sheesh!
was hoping nearly all of them have gone.
Something rotten in the State of Denmark?
At first glance I saw “2016, 532..” and thought, good! 2,016,532 gone. Alas, I was mistaken. Millions pouring in, and just a drop leaving. “Record Numbers” my a$$ !!!
How many came here as ‘Danish’ immigrants?
Back then, you had to be healthy, have NO physical nor mental health issues, have XXX amount of money with you, be sponsored by a family member or employer, who would not only vouch for you, but agree to TAKE CARE OF YOU, until you were settled and had a job. You couldn't have a criminal records and IIRC, there were a few other requirements as well.
Back then, there were absolutely no government "safety nets"/handouts at all; NONE! You made it or you died; end of story!
They above is why many ethnic groups ( the Germans, Hungarians, Poles, etc. ) set up " social and benevolent" societies, once there was a large enough upper tier group. They paid dues, held many charity dances, dinners, picnics, etc., to raise money to take care of such things as unemployment benefits, sick benefits and health care ( even hospital spaces ), death benefits for widows and orphans, bought large swaths of cemeteries, so that their members could buy plots at a discount, and charity for the newly arrived LEGAL immigrants from where they came from. The women of the ladies' auxilary, used to go into the places where the new immigrants were and taught them about how to BE an American, brought them Thanksgiving and Christmas and baskets filled with American foods, got them into English classes, etc.!
Even when the government started handing out benefits, these organizations lasted into the early 1960s. Partly, it was a way to have great/grand/ and children know some of the dances, music and culture of their ancestors original homelands.
Bye bye!
OK I wasn’t the only one then. At first I was great news, and then I had to look more closer , and then found it was a drop in the bucket.
