The Senate confirmed Betsy DeVos on Tuesday as education secretary, approving the embattled nominee only with the help of a historic tiebreaking vote from Vice President Mike Pence.
The 51-to-50 vote elevates Ms. DeVos a wealthy philanthropist from Michigan who has devoted much of her life to expanding educational choice through charter schools and vouchers, but has limited experience with the public school system to be steward of the nations schools.

but has limited experience with the public school system to be steward of the nations schools. I would bet that not one of the Senators who voted against DeVos has their kids in public schools.

Seeing the assorted pedos and whack jobs that are teachers, I have no idea why turning to one to be SoE is any step up.

That’s fine. We’ll be watching, Mrs. De Vos. Make it a good one, or you’ll find us to be your worst enemy.

Teachers unions can burn in...well, you know. Yep, time to provide some extreme competition to these government schools all while providing inner city kids (and others) choice to actually get a good education.

Your mother was correct and the public school system, in NYC, has NEVER before been as horrible as it is today. Even the specialized public schools and many of the private schools, aren’t anything even remotely near what they once were.

They were trying to say that she is dumb because she was never a teacher. Elites have a very high idea of themselves. My dad taught in the public schools all of his adult working life, and my mom taught until I was born; they knew teachers and teaching. One thing they never assumed was that any teacher was automatically "smart." In fact, they thought a lot of their fellow teachers were dumb as a bag of hammers... and that school administrators - with a few notable exceptions - were merely ex-teachers that couldn't make it in the classroom and opted to invest in "credentialing."
