Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly says he wishes that the rollout of President Donald Trump's travel ban had been delayed until he had a chance to prepare lawmakers for what was coming.
Kelly's comment was the most direct acknowledgment by a high-level administration official that the rollout of Trump's executive order had been mishandled.
Kelly was speaking Tuesday at a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing examining the order, which temporarily stopped entry to the U.S. from seven Muslim-majority nations and also temporarily bars the admission of refugees. A court has blocked the order, but the administration is appealing.

WTF is this? Sorry I don’t see where any error was made. Trump campaigned on this. He said he was going to do it. He did it. He kept his word.

Action was 100 percent right, use of presidential pulpit could have been better executed.
It wasn’t unexpected that Trump would make a rookie mistake or two. That’s ok. He’ll learn from it and be more effective next time.
The operative phrase of the exchange with Kelly in the hearing is the phrase:
Kelly defended the order saying it will enhance public safety "for all our citizens." Kelly said he believes it is constitutional and that Trump's review of immigration policies is necessary.

I've wondered if this policy could just have been implemented without an EO. Doesn't seem like an EO should/would be needed to enforce existing laws.

They need acceptance and will sacrifice loyalty to get it from the press or Congress.
Trump doesn't have the experience to know how this works. His marching orders should have been, “I expect you to be ahead of me in all matters. That way I can look good, be the mediator and get over 90% of what I want. Yes some of you will be shot and left on the battlefield, but that's why you are line officers and I'm the commanding general”.
Hopefully he will wise up and fire some of these clowns when necessary to clear things up.
