“Non-profits can’t campaign against him...”

What does that mean? How/why does it stop them?

I think they’ll be facing issues with running issue ads against a political figure, maybe.

But it’s good to get Trump into the race again in 2020.

He’s off to a (great) start, will be very interested in how this plays out.

Happy Lunar New Year, everyone.

(sorry just got back online again)

They will lose their tax deductibility by engaging in political campaigning. If he weren’t a declared candidate, their activities would just be written off as “informational”.

It is illegal for non-profits to engage in advocacy-they pay no Income Taxes, and are therefore supposed to stay neutral, or lose their non-profit status.

And with his people in the justice department, there will be a sharp eye watching them.

It’s also nice to know that President Trump isn’t sick of the job, and looks forward to continuing.
Methinks he’s still loving it.

“I thought Trump campaigned on promising 501c.3 churches that he would remove the ‘Johnson amendment’.”

This is a different issue. These non-prophets are political groups like “People for the (un)American Way”

This is actually a quite astute political move

Barack Obama did not file for his 2012 re-election bid until April 2011.

Why should he have bothered?

Didn't he already have Lois Lerner's IRS eager to rein in those stinkin' right-wing Tea Party 501(c)(3)s without even needing to be told?

This move is more telling than a 2020 run, it is about the wide ranging bucket list of things Trump’s Admin is taking control - look for more IRS related bombs to hit the left shortly. This is just the practical side of utilizing IRS Law - Winning!
