A former Defense Department official under the Obama administration has raised the specter of a military coup to remove President Donald Trump from power. In an editorial penned for Foreign Policy, senior Pentagon policy official Rosa Brooks publicly suggested a military insurrection against the Trump administration may be the only option to oust one of the most divisive presidents in American history. “Donald Trump’s first week as president has made it all too clear: Yes, he is as crazy as everyone feared,” Ms. Brooks wrote. “[One] possibility is one that until recently I would have said was unthinkable in the United States of America: a military coup, or at least a refusal by military leaders to obey certain orders.” For the first time in her career in public service, including three years as senior counselor to the Pentagon’s policy chief from 2009 to 2011, “I can imagine plausible scenarios in which senior military officials might simply tell the president: ‘No, sir. We’re not doing that.’” Ms. Brooks’ editorial comes as a recent poll by Public Policy Polling group found that 40 percent of registered voters support Mr. Trump’s impeachment.

What about all those other “agencies” that received bullets over the last couple of years? There was a reason for that and it was a good thing Trump won, because if Hillary did, those bullets would be used against us.

The Officer corps, as presently constituted after the extensive Obama Purge has many individuals (can we use that word for collectivists?)who would support a strike against the state but probably few or none who would lead one, leadership ability being a major target of leftist purges. They will cause trouble, though, and should be replaced. Reagan had to do the same after Carter’s purge. Bush did not do it after Clinton’s purges and so we ran in place and got bogged down in Iraq until capable leadership bubbled up through the ranks which is why we started, finally to win. The “surge” didn’t do it but it did provide more manpower for the new leadership and helped.
It is interesting to watch this. Please pray for our nation.
The progressive left ALWAYS projects their next move. ALWAYS! Whether it is their worst fears come from us(lie) or direct projection. We are hearing way too much of this coup idea from them.
But, perhaps it is the American voter who overthrew their progressive regime soft coup? They clearly did not think they would lose the election. Could it be they are now counting on their traitors inside DC to trigger such an event?
Look at all the traitors already smoked out in the executive branch. This is very bad and frightening. We should really consider that this idea has legs and pray for the real patriots serving in DC.
President Trump now has access to everything that’s been happening in DC. I wonder what he thinks now. Is he worried, scared, bravado, courage, the domestic threat and how to handle it? Surely he see’s the trap laid before him and it is a deadly snare.
Kind of reminds me of the funny situation where a guy walks into a bar to rob it, and points a gun at the bartender not knowing that every single patron in the bar is an off duty cop...

This is a much more serious threat than you believe.
First of all, the military is not a democracy.
Second, the chain of command (if it remains intact) is almost sacrosanct.
I had an interesting discussion a few years ago with a serving O-5, as conservative as they come, about whether or not Obama had the ability to order the military to suppress anti-Obama forces, and his surprising answer was "almost certainly yes".
A military coup against Trump will not begin by having Michael Moore and Ashley Judd address every corporal in the country via a video link explaining the why and wherefore.
It will begin (if it does) at zero dark thirty with men hustled out of their bunks and told a false story by a trusted leader (who got it from HIS trusted leader) about President Trump and the nation being in danger, requiring them to deploy to site A and carry out mission B.
All communications will be down, the only source of information for junior officers and troops will be their chain of command.
By the time anybody figures out what is really happening, Trump and Pence will be dead, Ryan and Hatch will be arrested (or Ryan will be addressing the nation from the Oval Office), and that will be that.
Imagine what sort of officers have received third and fourth stars from Obama. This has been going on for eight years.
I don't think a military coup is probable - but it IS possible - and if it goes down, the soldiers, sailors, and marines won't be voting on it.

As long as the chain of command remains intact, the military will follow the orders of their immediate superiors, unless and until it becomes clear that their immediate superiors are acting outside of the chain of command.

Good point. Donald has a lot of Swamp- draining to do— and quickly too at least asap at defense, intelligence and the Snake department. The Swamp draining at the smithsonian etc may have to wait a few days. One man can’t do everything all at once

Can you believe that someone with her values was influencing our military from the inside. No wonder we are in the trouble we are as a country.
These idiots just don’t get it: It’s a TWO WAY STREET. If these scumbags REALLY tried to pull of a coup like this, every Democrat who shows his/her/its face in public becomes the Ace of Spades in the deck.

Sorry, but it’s not possible IMHO. Everyone in the military has been trained in the UCMJ and know that you are not required to obey an unlawful order and they are all familiar with the Posse Comitatus act. As soon as they would be ordered to assault an installation in the U.S. military members from privates on up would start to question it. They are not robots.
Real Americans are trained, have their rifles zeroed and have plenty of ammo on hand.
We don't "polish bullets", unless we reload. A bullet is simply the projectile, although "bullet" is often used to refer to the entire round/cartridge. Linguists call this metonymy, where a part or attribute is substituted for the thing intended.
