Girl expelled after suing school to be on boys’ basketball team
NY Post ^ | 2 February 2017 | Richard Harbus

The New Jersey seventh-grader whose family sued the Catholic school that refused to let her play basketball on the boys team was abruptly expelled from her middle school Wednesday.

The parents of 12-year-old Sydney Phillips were sent a letter from an Archdiocese of Newark lawyer saying that both Sydney and her sister Kaitlyn should not attend St. Theresa “tomorrow morning or any day thereafter.”

The Phillips family was hoping Sydney would be able to play with the boys after the girls team was disbanded last school year.

When the Kenilworth school nixed that idea, her dad took legal action against the archdiocese and St. Theresa.

Apparently the school charter maintains that it can boot a student whose family brings a suit against it.

Not only expelled the brat from the school, but her sister as well. 'Bout damned time.

So there was no place else for this girl to play basketball? It had to be the school’s boy’s team?

I need more info here.

Are the parents liberal idiots??

This really gets me, as to what crazy issues someone will file a lawsuit over.

So for some reason there is no girls basketball team at the school anymore. Is this really a violation of law or constitutional rights of this girl, that there’s no school team for her??

The girls team was disbanded last school year.

But, aside from that, this is a private, though parochial, school. She can go to public schools.............

If you ask her or her father - yes.

Yep good point. There are so many places to play recreational or competitive sports. Is there now a constitutional right to have a girls basketball team in a school???? What exactly is their legal issue here????

“I suppose it really depends on how tall she is.”

Perhaps, but I suspect it’s more like if she compete with boys her age.

So go to a school with girls basketball. The world doesn’t revolve around you.

Will the family be on The Today Show and other such shows soon, to explain this? Will the media do other puff piece interviews with them? Will Gloria Allred be their attorney as they push this as some sort of women’s rights issue??? I wonder just how far they and the liberal media will push this.

And there will be another lawsuit to reinstate the girls in school. I see two lawsuits — one to force them to have a girls team or allow a girl on the boys team, and secondly, have a court overturn the girls being expelled from the school.

It amazes me too, to think that the family can’t sit down and figure out, how do we get to a situation where their daughter can play basketball.

They got the news that the school doesn’t have girls basketball. Their daughter really really totally wants to play. Their response to this is not to look for a situation in which she can be on a team elsewhere, but instead, their response is to file a lawsuit against their school.

I don’t understand such a mindset.
