Australian Teen Denied Visa For Space Camp in US Because His Parents Are From Iran
Gizmodo ^ | 1-30-2017 | Matt Novak

An Australian teen was denied a visa to attend space camp in the United States today. The 15-year-old, Pouya Ghadirian, was born in Australia but his parents are from Iran, giving him dual citizenship. The visa denial is believed to be the first for an Australian citizen under the Trump regime’s so-called Muslim ban, interpreted by many legal scholars to be grossly unconstitutional.

The high school junior was planning to visit the US with other classmates this upcoming March. The teenager’s trip was to include visits to Orlando, Washington, D.C., and the Space and Rocket Center in Alabama. The Alabama space camp is known worldwide as a thrilling experience for kids interested in science, technology, and space exploration. Hollywood even made a movie about it in 1986. Staff at the US consulate in Melbourne were reportedly apologetic about the visa denial, and perhaps a bit shocked. No federal agency, from the State Department to the Department of Defense, was warned about Trump’s executive order before Friday, adding to the confusion.

“They said it was the first time it had happened in an Australian embassy,” Ghadirian told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I cried at the consulate and I don’t normally.”

Unless that camp is heads and shoulders better than the one at NASA Houston, he is not missing out on much.

We enrolled our two grand-kids in the one in Houston and were very disappointed with it.

They got a T shirt, did some coloring of space themed pictures, made a few trinkets.

It was basically a space themed day care center.

Meanwhile, thousands of kids are denied entry into the schools or jobs of their choice because their parents are white or Asian

Yeah, tell us about how “unfair” it all is. Cry us a F river

It’s so simple: attendance at a space camp means, definitively and conclusively, that one will never, ever, commit any crime whatsoever.

And what is all of this whining about women and children. Seems to me that women can be suicide bombers too — and have been.

What people don’t realize is that that these murdering terrorists are animals and have no civility nor compassion. They use their children as human shields and their women are suicide bombers. Beware!

Somewhere, somehow, a poor American child now is being denied a visa to Iranian space camp at Semnan to watch a peaceful UN-defying nuclear ICBM test

My tears are being jerked

I say we should have denied his visa because Australia has allowed Red China a military base on their soil.

Just think of the cool CLOCKS he could have made with this experience!

But actually I don’t have a problem with this exclusion. But he’s probably surprised. After all, remember that Obama said NASA’s primary mission was “outreach to muslims”. Guess he figured space camp would be that way too.

"An Australian teen was denied a visa to attend space camp in the United States today."

I wonder why it was denied. It could have been denied for a very good reason.

Too bad the reporter didn't get to the bottom of it. Instead, he/she/it just describes the situation.

We call it Space Camp, but to Iran and their 15 year old Aussie-Iranian Double Agent Corps, our Space Camp is a treasure trove of USA ballistic missile secrets.

Like the responses, it is not callous, to see things for what they are.

I am sure there a lot of activities he will not be allowed to do in N. Korea either.

Our way of life has been changed. Every day Americans are inconvenienced while traveling, having their bags examined, getting pat-downs or x-rayed and it's been going on for 15 years because of Muslim terrorists.

Tough.

The kid is not “Australian”.

Since he holds dual citizenship he’s just as much Iranian.

As for Space Camp, there’s no real threat - it’s in the ATX building in Titusville and the only time you get onto the Cape is when you take the tourist bus like everyone else and go to the KSC visitor center and then to the Saturn V museum.

Suspect there’s more to this...like his parents.

Meanwhile, in Iran, as predicted, they launched a missile in defiance of the agreement. So much for Obozo’s payola gig.
