K-12: Drain This Swamp
American Thinker ^ | January 27, 2017 | Bruce Deitrick Price

Posted on 01/27/2017 2:57:12 PM PST by Kaslin

Donald Trump promised to drain the swamp in Washington. This task is especially urgent in that large, malodorous part of the swamp known as Education.

The Education Establishment makes everything murky and unproductive by an endless spew of jargon, incoherent theories, goofy methods, phony research, and new names for failed ideas. Finally, no two Americans can talk constructively about anything in education. It's as if they are talking across vast linguistic and cultural barriers, not over coffee at Starbucks. Education is now the fog-shrouded domain of dumbing down. Pervasive murkiness is a big part of the reason why so much educational reform remains stymied. Nothing moves fast in a swamp.

Here, then, is a simple formula for quickly draining the educational swamp: eliminate all the counterproductive ideas introduced over the last 85 years. That's it. These bad ideas, like the viruses in your computer, did not appear by accident. They were systematically and deliberately placed in the schools by John Dewey's socialist "change agents." The good news is that these bad ideas can be removed in that same deliberate way – just as a technician removes viruses from your computer. Presto: schools will be better and cheaper.

I hope Jimmy-The-Good repents, yet is punished for what he did to two generations of Americans. The damage cannot be overstated.

Simpler still, remove the Fed govt from education, both in policy, content and funding.

Personally I think even the states ought to reduce their influence on the schools by about 75%. Go local, and allow tons of competition.

1. Eliminate the communist led NEA Teachers Union

2. Eliminate tenure at the university level

3. Hire/Fire based on merit

4. Make it illegal to teach any anti-American propaganda

The propaganda is rife in the textbooks too. They should all be tossed.

All those snowflakes and irrational vagina-hat wearers, are the result of intentionally destroying virtue in children and hyper-sexualization through the Neo-Marxist and Neo-Freucdian curricula which literally destroyed all Common Sense and Natural instincts.

Yes, the damage can NEVER be overstated. If Hillary was elected, it would have been the end of the USA.

It is my understanding Betsy DeVos,Trump’s nominee for ed secretary is in the business of printing/marketing Common Core approved textbooks. If true, she is not qualifted to drain the education swamp.

We need curriculum change ASAP.

The fix is coming, Betsy DeVos. This lady is an education driven woman. She believes in home school, and charter schools. Here in Michigan, she has a good rep with parents, and is hated by the MEA.

You are greatly misinformed.

She does not promote Common Core.

She is an advocate for school choice and voucher programs

One of her projects was Islamic culture -she needs to be dropped. There are so many good down to earth education people he could have picked.

There's a case to be made for tenure at the university level - at least in the sciences. New professors must publish peer-reviewed research papers to keep their jobs. To increase their chances of their papers being accepted for publication, new professors tend to do research that makes small, incremental advances so that the chances of a successful study is high. Once professors have tenure, they can afford to do longer-term research and do research that has a potentially high payoff in terms of new knowledge, but also a higher risk of it being successful.

On the other hand, there is absolutely no reason for K-12 teachers to have tenure.

no its not its from people who read and study what is gong on in education. we will get nothing but Communist Core in public and charters. Traditional education is nowhere close to surfacing because THEY have already decided the mission of schools is training NOT EDUCATION.
