Meh. But what about editors of newspapers calling for the assassination of foreign leaders? Will that now be allowed? Is Germany channeling its inner Reich again?

Exactly what I was thinking.

They would probably have to imprison half the German cabinet now.

So in Germany you will have the free speech to say “Trump is an idiot”. Swell.

Whereas saying “Muslims are violent” will likely get you 5 to 10.

Probably. Still a good idea though. Stupid laws should be abolished.

There is a big difference between “insult” and calling for assassination. You know that.

OK, so as of yesterday it was illegal. When are you guys going to arrest the editor of Die Zit that called for Trump’s assassination?

LOL, yeah, this will seem a good idea for the progressives now, but later it’ll come back to haunt them.

Bring it on, come toss dirt at us....

Apparently the German government has to determine its citizens’ spoken and written word. We have the First Amendment.

Saw this in MAD Magazine decades ago:

Kid: America is best because we have the right to criticize our president.
Dad: What are you talking about? Everyone in the whole world has the right to criticize the American president.

Well, yeah. A lot of EU nations will flat-out jail you for saying all kinds of things of which the government does not approve.

This law was used to prosecute people who criticized Erdogan’s conduct in Turkey and the German leadership didn’t have a problem with that then...but now that Trump is in office, they suddenly need the policy to go away. Will German leadership apologize to the people they incarcerated and fined for protesting Erdogan’s purges?
