President Donald Trump wants to impose at 20% tax on imports from Mexico to pay for the border wall, according to his White House press secretary.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Sean Spicer wouldn't give further details on the proposed tax. He described it as a beginning of a process that would be part of overall tax reform, but did describe it as a decision that Trump has already made.
"This is something that we've been in close contact with both houses in moving forward and creating a plan," Spicer said. "It clearly provides the funding and does so in a way that the American taxpayer is wholly respected."

This could lead to a declaration of war!
What’s Mexico’s military like these days? :)
Hell, just the savings on free handouts from the U.S. taxpayers to the Mexican Nationals will pay for the wall in less than a year.
Guess I won’t be going to Mexico for a while.
Chile is still one of my favorite countries...
at LEAST 20%
Why not just place a remittance tax on the $26 billion that Mexicans in the U.S. send home every year?
Nope, because it would be Americans paying for the wall.
I’ve got a thread on remittances 3 or 4 posts back! Check it out.

We give them a lot of foreign aid - that will be used.
A 20% tax on imports is a tax on us. That would mean the US consumer us paying for the wall.
This is CNN and is most likely a lie.
How come Mexico only had 10,000 soldiers at the Alamo?
They only had 2 cars.
Americans would buy other goods instead.
We need to not collapse their economy until after our wall is in place. Tread carefully.
“Nope, because it would be Americans paying for the wall.”
Exactly.
Bogus story is my guess.
Heh. Think “Trump Casino Cabo San Lucas” in the new state of Baja.
No, Trump said it.
3D chess.
All negotiating. He’s likely trying to stop some other factories from going down there as well.
3D chess. His IQ is like 154. He’s several moves ahead.
Let ‘em get their cars somewhere else then...
How many can afford cars in China anyway????
I’d rather a tax on remittances.
I took a package to UPS some time ago to ship to Mexico. I sold something on ebay to a guy in guadalahara or some such place. I told the lady I wanted to send cheap, like by ground transportation. You should have heard the laughter in the place.
