A new bill was introduced this week that aims to extend background checks to almost all private firearm transactions in New Mexico, reports KOB 4.
Currently, a buyer only needs to undergo a background check if he/she is purchasing a firearm from a licensed dealer. If they were to purchase a gun online, at a gun show, flea market or from any other private seller, a background check would not be necessary.
However, if the bill, known as House Bill 50, passes, a licensed firearms dealer would be required to carry out all firearm transfers, which would include issuing a background check.

DemocRat socialists spreading their disease. Another attack and harassment, like California, on law abiding citizens rights.
How about life in prison with no parole for crimes with firearms??? Oh no, criminals have rights....
Expect this to go through in all leftist (ugh) states. Sickening and disgusting control freaks. Only a national law prohibiting state laws more strict than federal law or a successful lawsuit will correct this injustice.
Isn’t this essentially the same as the law recently passed-by-referendum in Nevada and deemed unenforceable?
We need a FEDERAL law that requires VOTERS to undergo the SAME requirements to vote as citizens are required to obtain a weapon in a given state.
New Mexico is rapidly succumbing to the disease that afflicts California, the allure that people can be forced to behave in a conforming manner by the dictates of the legislature.
The conforming manner is not right for everybody, but the New Mexico legislature is going to have to learn this all over again
Yup. And the dementocrats in the upcoming NV legislative session will try to come up with a way to enforce this piece of garbage perpetrated by nannie bloomers and his hench-women, the momunists. Hopefully they have screwed themselves.
NM Ping list.
we beat in Maine by being positive and getting the vote out. NM can do the same.
Yup, exactly as rktman posted - it was shot down by the AG who will probably advise the legislature in the same way but the Clark County crew drives the boat so I expect something will happen and require another smackdown.
How long is Arizona going to stay red with evil California and rapidly-worsening New Mexico on either side of it, and old Mexico below it? Seems like every retiring lefty I know is going to AZ.
I see enough Californians have moved in to effect this kind of crap.

Isn’t it amazing that these people will flee Cali (and MA, and NY...) to a place that is cheaper, better, free-er, and then proceed immediately to remake their new state in the image of what they were fleeing from in the first place? How stupid are these liberals?
Yes. However, at some gun shows here in New Mexico, if you are a private seller you can sell your firearm to a private person without a background check. That being said, if you're concerned about it, you can ask any of the FFLs there to conduct a background check for a nominal fee. Some will even waive the fee while at the show.
I get guns everyday in the u.s. mail no questions asked. NOT! The usual lies from the usual liars.
Kinda like adding a couple extra hundred dollars to your taxes to help pay down the debt. Nobody says you can’t. Same with firearms transactions. If you are concerned and the buyer has no objections, get a background check done. Purty simple.
