Democrats: Left in the Lurch... [Trump and Republican Party Sweep 2016]
NBC News ^ | January 18, 2017

Posted on 01/18/2017 10:58:01 AM PST by Beautiful_Gracious_Skies

When President-elect Donald Trump replaces Barack Obama on January 20, the Democratic Party will find itself more removed from power than at almost any point since the party’s creation.

Scorned by the same voters who once embraced the New Deal, built the Great Society, and put their hope in the nation’s first black president, Democrats are now locked out of power in Washington and out of two-thirds of state legislative chambers across the country.

Simply put, Democrats’ once vaunted coalition of the ascendant — younger, multiethnic, educated, and urban — failed them in 2016, and in 2014 and 2010 before that. That coalition proved to have major handicaps, part demographic and part geographic, that have been hollowing out the party for years.

Democrats may find cold comfort in Hillary Clinton’s ... popular vote lead and ... more people call themselves “liberal” than ever polled. And they ... protest a system ... unrepresentative of the popular vote. But it will be up to Democrats to solve their own problem within the current rules. -snip-

Countless autopsies will be written of the 2016 election. Most will focus on the strategy and tactics of the Clinton campaign. But to understand how Democrats arrived in this mess to begin with, it helps to go back to the party’s founding over 150 years ago.

I couldnt imagine something I’d be less interested in reading about.

Unless some older, wiser FReeper thinks it’s worth the read.

It’s quite a good article actually. The Democrats have to decide about whether they want to try to get back the Rust Belt via the white working class, or place their bets on the Sun Belt via the “ascendant majority”. Trump needs to solidify the Rust Belt by bringing back jobs and prevent the loss of the Sun Belt by deporting all of the illegal aliens.

The graphs and maps are interesting. Due to identity politics, demographics are not in our favor, but we all knew that. It needs to change.

I’ll check it out. Thanks.

Well Trump has 1400 plus days to flip the demographics our way. He can make quite a compelling case if jobs start popping up for minorities and the college funding is cut off.

And stopping the illegals AND syrian invasion will certainly help, as well as deporting the ones here already, many of whom probably voted.

The Democrats have been left with Lurch, indeed!

Just heard John F. Kerry will not be attending the 2016 Inauguration, rumor has it that he’s lost somewhere in the Mekong Delta, he served in ‘Nam ‘ya know.

Great ideas, removing non-citizens from the voting rolls is very important.

Donald J. Trump won the popular vote as well as the electoral 306 vote once we toss-out fraudulent votes.

25 of the 50 States have GOP trifectas just as the GOP has a trifecta at the federal level. The Dem’s have 6 trifectas. 4 states (2 for Dems, 2 for GOP) have veto-proof legislatures where one party controls both legislatures veto-proof and the other party has the governor. The other 15 are a Divided mix where bipartisanship will be needed to get anything done.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/11/14/1598918/-Republicans-now-dominate-state-government-with-32-legislatures-and-33-governors

Well technically Nebraska, having just one legislature body, is not a trifecta but the GOP has control there as if it was a trifecta.

I feel bad for the folks who care about freedom/Constitution in Hawai’i, California, Oregon, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

DEFINITELY worth the read. Oddly balanced and evenhanded, worth the time.

"Scorned by the same voters who once embraced the failed New Deal, wasted $10 trillion on the Great Society, and put their hope in the nation’s first racist and incompetent black president, Democrats are now thankfully locked out of power in Washington and out of two-thirds of state legislative chambers across the country."

Fixed it.

Would love to see his Navy discharge — the real one before Carter rewrote it for him.
