Three years ago, Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez of Honduras spoke before us here in Washington about the need for the United States and all nations to set aside the single-minded pursuit of wealth. He repeated Pope Francis’ warning about an economy that kills. He cited global inequality that has left working families so far behind that they often don’t have safe places to sleep, enough food to eat or access to clean water.
These concerns threaten us right here in America, right now. It’s the paradox of scarcity, and its solution is both increasingly difficult and increasingly important to embrace. When you hunger, you must practice generosity. When you feel insecure, the answer is solidarity. When you’re frightened, you must trust in the abundant gift of God’s love.
Erroneous autonomy claims that our only responsibility is to ourselves. It focuses on our differences rather than our shared humanity. And it fails to recognize that we are all bound together—and we will all ultimately rise or fall as one. Now I know from my faith and my work that solidarity is very, very powerful. This is a time for togetherness and unity, not the false promises of autonomy and rugged individualism.

Trumpka is slow on the uptake - if he was paying attention, he’d notice the abrupt decline of all those who have opposed Trump head-on......Union jobs have fallen from about 40% of the total to mid-single digits - he’s gonna see it decline to low single digits....
Trumka hasn’t figured out yet that if he recruits illegal aliens for the unions, the rest of the members are smart enough to ask themselves what the point of union membership is anymore. It obviously isn’t job protection.

And drive down the wages of those who are members. Why hire a union carpenter to build a house when you can get a crew of illegals to do the job for 1/3 the wage?
If he were interested in his membership, he would have union officials pointing out both the lack of union and green cards to the contractor when they find a crew of Mexicans roofing for framing a house. Instead he backs the Democrats (and Chamber of Commerce RINOs).
Church policy on birth has created a geometrically increasing number of humans and human needs in lands where the Church holds sway. The Church now condemns the competitive open market system, the only system that has gifted the world with healthy longer lives for all humanity. Let the Church first gift its poor and the poor of the world a share of its wealth.

Translation: We will use citizens as human shields to protect ILLEGAL immigrants, not “immigrants” in the legal sense, for LEGAL immigrants need no such “protection”. It makes the whole “immigrant” theme of the Left a lie.
More union members equals more union dues. More money means more power.
We were going to automate a part of the line that was quite dangerous. It would have reduced the number of people working in that area but would have reduced the number of major injuries.
IIRC there were two or three people working there a shift and the number would have gone down to one person on light duty to keep an eye on things.
The union refused to let us do it. It would mean less dues. The fact that it would mean less crush injuries was meaningless.
Finally we managed to reach an agreement where we would wait until the correct number of job reductions was arrived at by attrition rather then layoffs.
That took a couple of years. At the end of that time we installed the new equipment and the number of injuries in that area dropped to zero.
Here was the thing, if they had let us put in the equipment when we wanted to there would have been no layoffs. Corporate was planing to put in another two lines that would have absorbed all the worker plus would have added more.
After reviewing the fight we had to get the new equipment in they decided those lines would go elsewhere.
Congratulations Union! You are not only responsible for all the injuries that occurred during those years but kept us from hiring more union members. Truly the working mans hero.
Increasing the wealth of its members is the sole rationale for why a union should exist at all.
