ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Health insurance would have to cover birth control without co-pays in New York even if President-elect Donald Trump repeals Obamacare, under legislation proposed Wednesday by state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
The bill would codify into state law the Affordable Care Act mandate for cost-free contraception and expand upon the federal requirements to provide cost-free coverage for all birth control methods, including vasectomies and emergency contraception like Plan B. It also would allow access to a years worth of contraception at one time and prohibit insurance companies from reviews that can limit or delay contraceptive coverage.

As long as New Yorker pay for it, that’s fine. I don’t want to.
How much does birth control cost? I would think it would be a cheap generic. Why do people think birth control should be subsidized over other drugs?
Everyone is forgetting one little thing. Whatever plan Republicans enact to replace Obamacare is almost certain to include a provision which will let people purchase health insurance policies across state lines. That feature is common to every replacement proposal that’s out there.
But that also means that state governments won’t be allowed to regulate out-of-state policies, otherwise they’d effectively be turning them back into unique state policies, which would eviscerate the whole idea of expanding choices and promoting competition.
So New York (and other states) can do whatever they want as far as imposing requirements on policies offered by New York insurance companies or subsidiaries. And in response New York residents will be free to purchase policies from Texas (or wherever) which lack those requirements and hence are cheaper.
So if women want “free” birth control coverage they’ll be able to get it by buying the more expensive New York policies. If they want to buy their birth control products out of their own pockets, they’ll be able to buy the less expensive out-of-state policies, and very likely have a net savings.
You make excellent points; liberals aren’t smart enough to think that far ahead.
All Democratics?
At least it returns to being a states rights issue and not a forced federal national mandate. Never should have been forced onto anyone by fedgov, not their jurisdiction to begin with.
Anytime they have to duck the personal responsibility for making the decision, though, they will. Hey we didnt do it, fedgov requires it. Whether they agree or not, its just easier on them.
How the hell did contraception become part of the governments business. I thought all this sex stuff was private??
No state can dictate what the feds must do. NY can have it’s own healthcare.
