A new report released today features both the FBI seeking to launch a surveillance operation against an active US presidential campaign, and the ultra-rare case of the FISA courts actually turning down an FBI request to conduct surveillance against somebody.
The report, originating at the Guardian, claims that the FBI had sought broad surveillance powers over four high-ranking members of President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign during the election, claiming them to have had contact with Russian officials.
The FISA court turned the request down, telling investigators they needed to narrow the request. ADVERTISING
Though the four are not directly named in the report, it is related to claims in a dossier of Russia having substantial blackmail dirt on Trump, and that dossier centered heavily around accusations against a handful of Trump campaign personnel, including Carter Page, Paul Manafort, and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, along with Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen, meaning some of them may well be among the targets.

If so, it's worse than not working. He's digging his heels in. Doesn't take threats in the manner they for some mistaken reason expect. He issues his own in response, always has. Even a cursory "dossier" on the man would show this history.

Turned down on scope of the request NOT PRINCIPLE...How convenient to have current administration spy on challenging party’s candidate—just claim a connection to Russia. Unbelievable.

The Democrats, working on behalf of Hillary’s campaign, tried very hard to make it look like Trump is in the Russians’ pockets (when, in fact, it was Hillary). They went so far as to investigate Trump for his supposed Russian ties.
I know this because there was a small article that was published a couple of weeks before the election, which quietly mumbled that a Democrat-ordered investigation of Trump for his “Russian ties” did not turn up anything.
The fact that the investigation went nowhere was not highly publicized, and now, it seems that the MSM and Democrats are completely ignoring the non-results of that investigation and going forward as if it had revealed that Trump had Hillary-levels of collusion with foreign governments.
The investigation itself was a gross misuse of government resources. Furthermore, the idea that the government can, with impunity, investigate anyone just because they pose a threat to the political power mongers should scare everyone.
I need to dig up that article about the investigation that went nowhere. I have no doubt the intent of the investigation was to produce material that the Dems could use as an October surprise. However, it seems that Trump has no skeletons in his closet that are surprise-worthy.
They need a refund from whomever constructed it, then. Incompetent. Even a casual observer could predict the reaction they're getting.
I think it was initially planned just to counterbalance Hillary’s own problems vis-a-vis Russia, and then it snowballed. It’s gotten thoroughly ridiculous but they can’t back down because their own supporters, financial as well as political, have lost there ever-loving minds and are trying to prevent Trump from being inaugurated. If this is so, it’s only going to get more bizarre from here.
