Russia has placed advanced surface-to-surface ballistic missiles in Syria, according to the Times of Israel.
High-resolution imagery released by ImageSat International on Thursday confirms what intelligence analysts have known since March of last year, that Moscow has indeed placed nuclear-capable ballistic missiles in Syria
This revelation approves [sic] several unconfirmed reports of the Iskander presence in Syria and uncovers the systems deployment site, ImageSat said. Most probably, heavy rain and floods forced the re-deployment of those two elements to the location in which they were revealed by iSi analysts, the firm noted.

Exactly ..!!!!
That’s pretty scary.
Big change from plopping one out of a plane in ‘45 :)
and this is a bad thing ?
Heard they even deployed nuclear capable trucks. Lol. Their beds are big enough to hold a nuke war head. Basically if Daesh had overrun Damascus and solidified their defenses, Damascus would have went boom, boom, boom. It still may of course.
If Israel isn’t airing it’s concerns in public, I suspect we can safely say this is fake news.
More B.S. from the ‘military level strike’ champions, pounding the drums of war over nothing at all.

I don't know if this is particularly significant. The Iskander is a very effective conventional arm, claims 7 yard accuracy out to 500 km, and can carry multiple warheads. Not sure "nuclear capable" is an issue, doubt Russia is introducing warheads to Syria. Control, which I assume is Russia, is an issue. Were they transferred to Assad, I suspect Israel would react. Besides, I'm sure they target Russia anyway.

Nuclear capable doesn't mean much since every Tomahawk is in theory nuclear capable as well and all Burke class destroyers have them.
Now, if you want something to worry about, worry about the Turkish government saying they believe the CIA was behind the mass killing at a night club.
That's a major worry because the US has a good many nuclear weapons and warheads in Turkey with the Turks keeping the US from removing them. If Erdo is going down that track he could easily come up with a reason to sieze whatever he likes thereby becoming a nuclear power then throwing all foreign troops out and leaving NATO.
The Turks suddenly getting their hands on a few dozen weapons and warheads worries me a lot more than some missile that could carry a warhead being with Russian troops in Syria. The Russians have had thousands of nukes ready to go and hit the US at a moments notice for over forty years now.
The government and military in Russia collapsed and was rebuilt under a different kind of government without anyone launching or using nukes we know for a fact that could have used at any time. The Turks have no such record of stability and cool headedness. In fact, hotheaded Muzzies getting Nukes is supposed to be the first and foremost concern for the whole War on Terror.
This wouldn't even be worth the bits it takes to report on it if there wasn't an anti-Russian BS storm on the democrat talking points for the day.
Imagine if Hezbollah gets their hands on this?
Good ole Puttie Put.
Putin stole Bobby Knight’s super bowl ring. Bobby was over in Russia about some business with a State Dept. official and Putin asked if he could see Bobby’s ring. Bobby took it off and handed it to Putin who put it one his hand and then kept possession of it. He’s a real sweetheart.
Yes, Obama began the policy of retreat and appeasement. Some like it and urge president elect Trump to appease and even more.
I think for some anything not praising Putin is now perceived as likely to cause a war.
As Putin's ally Iran likes to say, America is the great Satan and Israel is the little Satan. No doubt that idea is catching on in many places and some people are not even conflicted about which side they're on now.
Much of what you say is true. I suppose, too, that Israel should not report on what Iran’s allies, Syria and Russia, are doing in Syria. I mean you’re comfortable. And Israel is, if I understand you correctly, providing Democrat talking points.
Allegedly, it was Robert Kraft’s ring.
Yes, that’s what Israel no doubt fears the most. Russia has armed Iran, it’s ally, and Iran arms Hezbollah with anything it can. It’s risky. No doubt that’s why Israel released this information to put pressure on Russia to secure these missiles and not transfer them. Their use in an asymetrical war is dubious to begin with. They’re more about messaging NATO and other nations that Putin wants to intimidate, including Israel.
The missiles in question don't alter any balance of either nuclear or conventional weapons in the region, so they don't worry in the way the article implies they should worry me.
That's not nearly the same thing as my being comfortable with their being in Syria but for reasons that have nothing to do with Russia putting nuclear warheads on them.
I also understand that around FR dealing with reality rather then BS when it comes to Russia is considered being pro-Putin, pro-Russian, or some other absurd crap which does nothing except keep people misdirected away from what they should be worried about.
Hey, rashputin, your quarrel is with the Israelis. In this case, they’re the ones that don’t get it that Putin is swell and benign. Why wouldn’t you be comfortable? You support those missiles being there, right?
Don’t you worry a lot about Putin being exposed? What if his bank accounts were revealed to the Russians? Would it be bad for them to find out how much they’ve been ripped off and conned by this thug? And as the facts change and reveal more the real nature of Putin and his threats to peace, will your mind change or will you still insist that facts don’t matter, Putin is right anyway.

Also from the Oct 5, 2016 first VP debate...
QUIJANO (Moderator): I want to turn now to Syria. Two hundred fifty thousand people, 100,000 of them children, are under siege in Aleppo, Syria. Bunker buster bombs, cluster munitions, and incendiary weapons are being dropped on them by Russian and Syrian militaries. Does the U.S. have a responsibility to protect civilians and prevent mass casualties on this scale, Governor Pence?
PENCE: The United States of America needs to begin to exercise strong leadership to protect the vulnerable citizens and over 100,000 children in Aleppo. Hillary Clintons top priority when she became secretary of state was the Russian reset, the Russians reset. After the Russian reset, the Russians invaded Ukraine and took over Crimea.
And the small and bullying leader of Russia is now dictating terms to the United States to the point where all the United States of America the greatest nation on Earth just withdraws from talks about a cease-fire while Vladimir Putin puts a missile defense system in Syria while he marshals the forces and begins look, we have got to begin to lean into this with strong, broad-shouldered American leadership.
It begins by rebuilding our military. And the Russians and the Chinese have been making enormous investments in the military. We have the smallest Navy since 1916. We have the lowest number of troops since the end of the Second World War. Weve got to work with Congress, and Donald Trump will, to rebuild our military and project American strength in the world.
But about Aleppo and about Syria, I truly do believe that what America ought to do right now is immediately establish safe zones, so that families and vulnerable families with children can move out of those areas, work with our Arab partners, real time, right now, to make that happen.
And secondly, I just have to tell you that the provocations by Russia need to be met with American strength. And if Russia chooses to be involved and continue, I should say, to be involved in this barbaric attack on civilians in Aleppo, the United States of America should be prepared to use military force to strike military targets of the Assad regime to prevent them from this humanitarian crisis that is taking place in Aleppo.
Theres a broad range of other things that we ought to do, as well. We ought to deploy a missile defense shield to the Czech Republic and Poland which Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama pulled back on out of not wanting to offend the Russians back in 2009.
QUIJANO: Governor, your two minutes are up.
PENCE: Weve just got to have American strength on the world stage. When Donald Trump becomes president of the United States, the Russians and other countries in the world will know theyre dealing with a strong American president.

And...
PENCE: What were dealing with is the you know, theres an old proverb that says the Russian bear never dies, it just hibernates.
And the truth of the matter is, the weak and feckless foreign policy of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has awakened an aggression in Russia that first appeared a few years ago with their move in Georgia, now their move into Crimea, now their move into the wider Middle East.
And all the while, all we do is fold our arms and say were not having talks anymore.
To answer your question, we just need American strength. We need to we need to marshal the resources of our allies in the region, and in the immediate, we need to act and act now to get people out of harms way.
