Twitter. How appropriate, their headquarters is a couple blocks away serviced by that BART station entrance. Victim or perp could be an employee.
Twitter link is protected
So many of us have family or friends who transit through that station. Hope the victim survives relatively ok.
Two attacked, one died.
Or maybe only one attacked. Possibly had his throat slit. Victim is dead.
Yes, it is now locked for me too. It was available until recently - last 20 minutes or so.
Bart is calling it a large knife.

Oh dear.
Confirmed by media: http://hoodline.com/2017/01/man-allegedly-attacked-with-machete-in-civic-center-station
Weapon was machete, suspect still at large.
Agree. Civic center is going through a lot of changes for the better. Used to be den of dope addicts and low-lifes, but is seen gentrification over the last twenty years. Accelerating now with tech companies like Twitter moving in. There were like 8 or so large parking lots within a couple blocks of that Bart station that saw high-rise skyscrapers built on them in the last 15 years. Upscale cafes, stores and museums replacing tobacco shops, pawn shops, check-cashing loan sharks and the like. Still a lot of low-lifes congregating in park areas nearby, don't like the changes and harass the techies. You still have to watch your back walking there at night. I had offices at a couple buildings near where Twitter is, off and on over the decades and used that Bart station. Much improved lately, but needs more improvement.

I have to disagree. Civic Center Plaza is a place to avoid. It’s as bad as ever.
Yes, one of the worst if not the worst.
SO true...that UNDERWEAR!
Okay. I haven't been a frequent visitor there lately, just a few times a year. But it has been much worse from what I see. 40 years ago it was dangerous to venture west of Van Ness Ave, lest you get robbed or assaulted by dope addicts or thieves. Some of my co-workers were assaulted on Franklin, Gough, and streets west of Van Ness. Now it's all trendy restaurants and high-end stores. 30 years ago both sides of Market between Van Ness and 5th streets were downtrodden with x-rated peep theaters, pawn shops, and other undesirable shops, along with despicable characters. Now the south side of Market is full of new skyscrapers with trendy shops at street level, while the north side is boarded up undergoing rebuilding. The Tenderloin to the north was worse, with hookers and heroin pushers. Now it has lots of Asian families with new shops, restaurants and protected parks for kids.
I have to agree that Civic Center Plaza still needs help. A couple times a week a farmer's market is held there, which I go to from time to time. Decent on those days. But overall, the Civic Center area has greatly improved over 40 years. Crime-wise, is much safer. Tip: don't touch the walls of BART stairwells or hallways (you can smell the reason).
That Bart is such a brat.
