President-elect Trump is on a roll today. Following House Republican's vote to strip the Ethics Office of independence, Trump lashed out with a tweet suggesting Congress' time be better spent on other things... and just minutes ago, following an emergency meeting, Republicans have confirmed the amendment has been pulled.
As a reminder, House Republicans abruptly voted on Monday night to eliminate the independence of the Office of Congressional Ethics, the chamber’s nonpartisan ethics board which investigates lawmakers' alleged misconduct, largely stripping it of its power, leading to pushback from Democrats and government watchdog groups. House Republicans, meeting as a group Monday night, approved an amendment from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte that would place the office under the oversight of the lawmaker-run House Ethics Committee.

Exactly. The optics was terrible.
This is a Trump win just because it directs the attention of the 115th Congress away from trivial and relatively insignificant things to other things of WAY greater priority.
The 115th Congress already has a lot on their plates, they have to be kept focused. We get to ethics AFTER the border is secure, the Federal budget is reined in, the illegal and unconstitutional activities of various alphabet agencies get shut down, and something is done about taking the fight TO ISIS.
Oh, yeah, and patching things up with Russia.
So Dems jumped up and down...pretending they were mad about the overturn....but really....they were happier than hell.
Reversing leaves the Dems still holding cards...after they hoped the game was over. Look for more info on what they did in the last 8 years.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was planned and this was all theater. You have to know which battles to pick and when
I’m sure there are problems with it, but the optics of getting rid of an ethics panel behind closed doors after a drain the swamp election just doesn’t look good.
Laura Ingraham had Marsha Blackburn (Rino-Tennessee) on her show this morning. Laura ripped into Blackburn regarding this. Blackburn sounded a bit uncomfortable with Laura’s pointed remarks regarding draining the swamp.

Optics. The Rats can and would use this as an issue to stop the Republican Congress from getting anything Trump proposes done.
The Rats will say, the Republicans run everything and the first thing they do is get rid of Ethics Reform. They don’t care about the American People, blah blah blah...
We here on FR know it’s a setup, but we pay attention to what really goes on in Politics. The average Voter sees corrupt Politicians trying to get away with something.
They have no idea how this idiotic Ethic Panel got its start thanks to Pelosi and a bunch of cowardly RINO’s who followed her lead.
I have read that this office is what’s used to keep the conservatives toeing the Ryan line. I think there was more to this move than it seems.
Pelosi started it....she made money off of it with VISA.
