Delta Air Lines is passing on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The Atlanta carrier said it has canceled an order for the high-profile new model, after previously postponing deliveries.
Delta had inherited the order for 787s through its 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines. The 787 orders were considered a significant part of Northwests assets at the time.
The question of what Delta would do with the order had been up in the air for years. In 2010, the airline announced it had decided to defer delivery of the 18 787-8 planes until 2020 and later.
Rivals United and American airlines, meanwhile, have both added the 787 to their fleets, as have dozens of foreign carriers.
When Delta this week announced the cancellation, Greg May, senior vice president of fleet, said in a written statement: This business decision is consistent with Deltas fleet strategy to prudently address our widebody aircraft needs.
The list price for a 787-8 Dreamliner is $224.6 million, making the Delta order worth as much as $4 billion. Airlines typically get bulk discounts for large orders, however.

Exactly! I will NOT fly the airbus sardine cans. They are pure torture! Have flown the Dreamliner often and always on long flights. Great plane!
Yup! Used to be good, but not worth crap now.
You are exactly right. I would, however, lower the 5’8” height to about 5’3. I am a little over 5’8” and cannot stand the airbus seats. Will NOT under any circumstances fly airbus over an hour flight!!!!!
My first experience was on Japan Airlines where I had a bulkhead business class seat, I could not touch the bulkhead with my feet there was so much room.
Comfort, seat size, quieter-less noise, greater sense of spaciousness, in general the feeling of flying comfortably instead of being on a cattle car! I LOVE the Dreamliner!
No one was a bigger complainer than me over the lightbulb/toilet nonsense. I have a few hundred 60 watt bulbs that I thought was so important, but newer LCD are great and even cheaper if you figure longevity. The toilets today work 10 time better than the old ones I removed, just a fact. I never have to double flush, never.
We should expect things to improve but in those industries nothing was going to happen. On the other hand those Clinton close washers are a joke, and way over priced.
Overseas flights I ALWAYS fly the Dreamliner. Arrive at my destination feeling rested, not abused or worn out. I am an older female who travels alone with nobody to help me. Believe me, flying comfortably counts a lot.

“The 737-MAX is the newest variant, with the newest engines for improved fuel savings.”
One of my neighbors is a Captain for Southwest. He was telling me the other day that the “next” 737 model ( with new engines) and some wing improvements are going to yield 10 to 15% better fuel economy than their current 737’s. That’s huge, if true. Up to now, the 737 upgrades have yielded single-digit fuel savings improvements.
American acquiring US Air was the best thing ever. I really like American but am happy with Delta as well. With either, I continuously watch the upgrade list to be saved from "back there." I miss the days when knowing the gate agents would result in an upgrade
I see thanks. I used to like flying, would much rather not anymore. The whole experience has become too much of a hassle.
Only way to get to Europe unless you take a boat. Lessen the hassle and fly the Dreamliner. Less noise, less vibration, less tiring.
True, but I have no need or desire to go to Europe thank goodness. Not until they start taking their migrant situation seriously.
I feel safer in Paris than in Chicago, New Orleans, and a dozen other home grown sanctuaries. But that’s just me, I guess.
Yeah, but for how long is the question? It is getting worse by the day in Europe, and they seem powerless to do anything about it which will only embolden them to commit more acts of terror and harassment. But yes, in those cities mentioned it is bad too, bit it also depends a lot on where in the city you go.
That is why I live in the country. 8>)

..........................................................
Same for Paris and other places I visit. I spend at least three months every summer in Europe and haven’t stopped because of some problems here or there. I have never lived my life in fear and won’t let fear govern my actions. I’m not foolish, nor am I a scardy cat. Yes, I love the country too and I love to travel. Some nut jobs are not going to deprive me of enjoying the last years of my life.
.
Wise flyers have been dumping Delta for several years.
They’re a thuggish globalist company.
.
.
No one in their right mind would want to get to Europe!
.
It’s not fear it just that I don’t want the drama anymore. I do not enjoy crowds. I prefer the serenity of silence, the beauty of seeing the sky in all of its glory at night, and the smell of a bonfire on certain occasions with friends and family. 8>)
In Paris, the last words you ever heard will be “allah akhbar”. In Chicago or New Orleans, it would be “whatchu lookin’ at, mayng?”
Pick your poison.
