Weeks after meeting with Sprint Corp. Chairman Masayoshi Son, President-elect Trump announced Wednesday that the wireless phone company will soon move thousands of outsourced manufacturing jobs back to the United States.

"We have some very good news," the incoming Republican president told reporters outside his beachside resort in West Palm Beach, Fla., Wednesday afternoon. "Because of what's happening and the spirit and the hope, I was just called by the head people at Sprint and they're going to be bringing 5,000 jobs back to the U.S. They're taking them back from other countries."

Sprint doesn't manufacture anything.

The article said "manufacturing jobs". Even if Sprint has that many finance and call center jobs in Asia they aren't going to be moving them back here. The company has enough trouble making money. I can't remember the last year they ended in the black.

Didn’t know you sat in on the conversations :)

I have Cancelled credit cards and other things for using overseas folk I can’t understand.

Some things are too important to deal with people who you can’t understand.

I just read the article. I assume they're quoting Trump correctly?

American Express had me chatting with some ‘supervisor’ in Bombay, or perhaps it was New Delhi. I could barely understand a word he said. I kept saying...”What?”.

AMERICAN EXPRESS!

That was 13 years ago or so.

They have been trying to get me back as a customer ever since.

They can go make their money in India if they love them so much.

“What’s the count up to now?”

Best guess Carrier, US Steel, the Japanese and Chinese firms about 50k.

And Mr. Trump isn’t president yet.

This winning thing is fun.

Sprint=The "Pin-Drop Advertisement" people. I still get a chuckle thinking of, "But I ordered a hundred oxen". :)

There seems to be some “fog of winning” here, but the combined total is 8,000 jobs, 5,000 with Sprint (which I suspect are more support-oriented), and 3,000 from OneWeb, which would definitely be manufacturing jobs.

OneWeb Ltd on Dec. 19 announced it had raised $1.2 billion and planned to use the funds to build a plant in Florida to produce low-cost satellites, creating almost 3,000 jobs over four years.

Sprint Corp is 82 percent owned by SoftBank and SoftBank has agreed to invest $1 billion in OneWeb.

50 K Softbank. 50 K Apple. 10 K US Steel. 2 K Carrier. 5 K Sprint. (The 3 K OneWeb jobs are part of the Softbank 50K)

About 127,000 jobs brought back in about 20 days. With the DOW flirting with 20 K I would not say a bad 20 or so days. Wait till he does the repatriation of $ tax holiday. This was just chatting with people.

Time for Trump not just to bring jobs back but to wake up the sleeping job giant inside the country. There is very little hope without a job, and there are millions of jobless pining away. As a start, make America energy independent by building refineries, install pipelines and expand our LNG industry as a clean fuel source.

...Sprint doesn’t manufacture anything...

However, customer service, R&D, and engineering departments of every imaginable big company have moved to India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other countries. It appears the quote is from Maysayoshi Son. Every kind of job returning to the USA is welcome news.
