Honolulu’s Café 8 ½ gets rave reviews on Yelp for its “Radiatore Verde” and “Italian stir fry,” among other popular dishes at the eclectic mom-and-pop restaurant – but the response to its new 'policy' barring pro-Trump patrons has been decidedly more mixed.
A bright yellow, handmade sign posted on the restaurant's front glass door declares: “If you voted for Trump you cannot eat here! No Nazis.”
A photo of the sign was shared with FoxNews.com. One also is proudly posted on the café’s Facebook page, and was “liked” by some 40 people.
“…The next time you're in Honolulu, eat lunch here, not only are they on the right side of things, the food is delicious and reasonable,” one Facebook user wrote next to the photo.
Others aren’t so charmed.
Honolulu resident and Donald Trump voter Susan Roberts told FoxNews.com she found the sign in “extreme poor taste.”
“It's childish and very unprofessional,” she said in an email. “… The restaurant owner doesn't have to worry ... I will not be stepping foot in that establishment.”
Willes Lee, former chairman of the Hawaii Republican Party and now president of National Federation of Republican Assemblies, told FoxNews.com the sign is discriminatory, and harkens back to “racist and hate-filled” days before statehood.
“Remember when Filipinos couldn't go in certain places, or Japanese wouldn't be allowed [in] many homes? And, it didn't matter who they voted for,” said Lee, who is of Japanese descent.

Totally true. For years, CNN in Atlanta has told applicants “We don’t hire Republicans.”
A good portion of the engineering staff are Trump voters. The others, not so much. Biggest argument you can enter into in the shop is if you slander the Big Green Egg. That gets them going.
We should all use a modified version of that for our tag lines.
I appreciate their being upfront and honest, because I don’t patronize places I know to be run by idiots.
Some of these food people are so full of themselves. Have you noticed on the Food Network how the word “chef” is uttered with such reverence? I would like to remind them of the simple fact that the high-class culinary art they are serving up today will be floating down the sewer tomorrow.
If you put up a sign saying “No Democrats Allowed”, you would be accused of racism and the media would run with it.
Time for a Civil Rights lawsuit to “relieve” this bigot of his business!

Precisely correct. The left is full of logical fallacies. Anarchal communists think a larger more central government will lead to freedom as the state withers away. It won’t and never has. You cannot be tolerant with intolerance, but the left thinks it can. Vicious attacks by migrants in the EU can be stopped by more immigration. The left has some serious wiring problems in their heads.
I’ve eaten here. It’s a mom and pop place, food pretty good, service awful. It’s popular at lunchtime because it’s a good location downtown.
The ‘pop’ is a haole jazz musician who sometimes plays (or used to) at his restaurant. Their son is a musician too. They seemed like nice normal people trying to run a family business.

Anyway, I support businesses being able to refuse service to people for ANY REASON whatsoever. Too bad cake decorators don’t get to choose who to do business with. The hypocrisy is monumental.
Hawaii is super majority Democrat so the odds are they are not offending the majority there. So pretty safe (and cowardly) move on their part.
