“Nice place for a hotel.”
Boot the UN outta there and make the place a giant casino. Then Mr. and Mrs. Main Street could pour cash into that place with some credible hope of winning something in return. PLUS, you wouldn’t even have to change the zoning; there’s hi-stakes gambling going on there, already.

The UN should be declared a terrorist supporting organisation and banned from U S soil
How many more humiliations must it invoke on us and Israel before people get smart ?

Saw that on Twitter. I was surprised that he was so opposed...he’s usually such a wimp. Maybe Trump has made him brave. LOL!

Quit the UN and serve them an eviction notice.

I found that only two senators of the then 96 voted against entry into the UN. I did not find their names and do not know if this vote cost them reelection. HST claimed, “The action of the Senate substantially advances the cause of world peace,” and that’s what the people thought.

Another article says it was approved 65-7, with the Senate rejecting a Robert Taft amendment. That would mean 24 abstentions.

Six Republicans Senators William Langer of North Dakota, Edward Moore of Oklahoma, Chapman Revercomb of West Virginia, Henrik Shipstead of Minnesota, Robert Taft of Ohio, and Kenneth Wherry of Nebraska voted against joining the UN. Senator Burton K. Wheeler of Montana was the only Democrat opposed.

It is not clear if the conservative “Pappy” O’Daniel, an Ohio-born Texas senator, voted for entry; he may have abstained.

I remember reading that in the 1964 campaign for president, Governor Scranton of PA chided Senator Goldwater for taking potshots at the ineffectiveness of the UN.

The two dissenters, William Langer of ND and Shipstead of MN were opposed to the UN Charter.

Shipstead’s vote is believe to have cost him re-nomination in MN in 1946.
