Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said in a new interview that Donald Trump has taken a different tone as president-elect and may be leaving behind his campaign promise to drain the swamp.
Gingrich told NPR's "Morning Edition" that he was told Trump now says [the phrase] was cute, but he doesnt want to use it anymore.
Gingrich, who has been a close adviser to Trump, said he likes "drain the swamp" because it vividly illustrates the problem, because all people in this city who are the alligators are going to hate the swamp being drained.
But, you know, he is my leader, and if he decides to drop the swamp and the alligator I will drop the swamp and the alligator, he said.
Gingrich also said hed noticed Trumps change in attitude toward his supporters chanting lock her up at his post-election rallies, referring to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Maybe he feels that, as president, as the next president of the United States, that he should be marginally more dignified than talking about alligators in swamps, Gingrich said.

From “The Hill”. That’s all I need to know to take this with a grain of salt.
I say it should be called a “Jihad on the Alligators”.
I don’t care what he calls it... as long as he actually does it.
Always great to know you've got a guy like this on your team.
Newt didn't have to make one comment on this subject, but he couldn't help himself.
This is the Newt I've come to know and loathe.
.
Gingrich deepened the swamp when he was speaker.
None of the really important bills ever made it by him.
Hypocrite to the max.
.
True, but he did say he grew to love the phrase during the campaign.
Drain the freakin swamp and put Hildebeast in prison where she belongs.
Notice the source of this information: The Hill. Not very supportive of Trump at all and maybe making a mountain out of a molehill.
.
It all has to be about Noot.
.
He’s got to accomplish some things with these swamp monsters if he’s going to ever be successful.
Instead of campaigning, he will soon need to become president.
Watch out for what the media prints in headlines - if it bleeds it leads.
From the Article: “Gingrich told NPR’s “Morning Edition” that he was told Trump now says [the phrase] was cute, but he doesnt want to use it anymore.
NOTE THE POINT - “doesn’t want to use it (the phrase) anymore”. That’s it - He will still remove the corrupt, lobbyists, etc. You already saw that in his ethic requirements for cabinet and other members he appoints.
Newt has been around long enough to know the press will twist his every word.
Why comment on this with clarification? He knows damn well the clarification will not be the headline.
I think he still wants to do it, but he may need to change tactics now that he is elected. Trump will be big on cooperation from the old guard republicans and his newer followers. If he wants the Bushies to work with him, he knows it won’t help to keep bashing them with little names and labels. Donald seems to have a good feel for what is needed during this introductory process. The next two years will be his greatest time of introduction and experimentation in style.
Exactly. All Newt said was that Trump wasn’t going to use those terms. He didn’t say he wasn’t going to drain it, and Trump has never said that or implied it, either. He’s just honing his message.
.
If it ain’t about Noot, what can it be about??

I also enjoy Newt's observations, but when he smacks of breaking confidences quoting from a private conversation he may or may not have had with PEOTUS Trump, he leads me to believe he would not be a person in whom Mr. Trump should seek counsel.
Running to the microphone with every new tidbit of information makes him look like Schumer.
When Kelly Anne Conway spoke comments about Romney she said she had Mr. Trumps permission to speak freely to the press. We knew she had that permission. Does Newt have that permission?
Newt, how about some self-volunteered drainage.
Start with you.
STFU and go home!
This guy can’t resist a microphone any more than John McCain can.
