What did Erdogan know, and when did he know it?
FrontPage ^ | December 20, 2016 | By Robert Spencer

An off-duty police officer named Mevlut Mert Altintas, screaming “Allahu akbar” and making the raised index finger gesture that has come to be a signal of allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS), murdered Andrey Karlov, the Russian ambassador to Turkey, at an art exhibit in Ankara on Monday. Altintas was reportedly a “member of the special ops unit in Ankara” – raising the question of what did Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan know, and when did he know it?

As he murdered Karlov, Altintas shouted: “Allahu akbar (God is greatest). Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria!” Russia, of course, has greatly aided the Assad regime to retake Aleppo and driving jihadi “rebels” back. Altintas’ Islamic State signal, unless it was a deliberate feint, could have indicated that he was loyal both to Erdogan and to ISIS, both of which are arrayed against Russia.

Erdogan hates Assad and has vowed to unseat him; what’s more, there are numerous indications that he wants to co-opt the Islamic State into a new Ottoman caliphate. His contempt for Kemalist secularism, and consistent and determined efforts to erode it away, have been noted for years. Also frequently noted is the fact that Erdogan has frequently been accused of “neo-Ottoman” tendencies – that is, of wanting to restore the caliphate. Turkey, after all, was the home of the last caliphate, the Ottoman Empire. It is highly possible, therefore, that Erdogan sees the Islamic State less as an enemy than an opportunity: he may envision it defeating his other enemies, such as the Kurds and Assad’s Alawite regime in Damascus, or at least holding them at bay until the opportunity arises for him to move in and reap the benefits of the Islamic State’s activities. . .

FROM ARTICLE:

“So did Erdogan order the assassination of Andrey Karlov? After Erdogan was widely accused, with considerable justification, of engineering a coup attempt against himself several months ago so as to give himself a pretext to move against his political enemies, this possibility cannot be dismissed.”

All the more reason for us to get the hell out of there. We have no business being there. I’m for helping Russia and Assad do the dirty work providing the Christian are protected.

Read this sentence twice Freepers. I think this is the true nature of things Middle-East-wise these days. We are fighting to help Turkey and ISIS form a nice new big Sunni Caliphate.

If all had went as planned then it would just be a matter of time before we would see Turkey, Syria, Iraq, al Qaeda, ISIS and all those "Friendly, Moderate Sunni Syrian Rebles" merge into a peaceful, nice, wonderful Islamic Caliphate. A place where Obama could live in peaceful retirement.

But then along came a new sheriff ...

Fake news! Fake news! You-you-you are just trying to stir up TROUBLE, doncha know? If this is true, boy is PUTIN gonna be p*ssed, and who knows how HE will go off half-cocked!

On the other hand, it might very well be true, who can tell at this point?

The assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand set into motion a whole chain of events, that once they commenced, could not be stopped.

Odd that Obama threatened “We can do stuff to you” to Moscow just two days earlier.

Surely just an unfortunate coincidence.

The autocratic regime in Turkey of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has not only broken an all-time world record in the number of journalists it has jailed, which now exceeds 150, but in the speed with which it moved to scapegoat journalists for terrible events that have occurred under its watch, without assuming any responsibility whatsoever for them as well. When bomb attacks in Istanbul that killed 46 people and injured 166 took place on Dec. 10, the troll army on Twitter that is funded and supported by Erdoğan’s family spread the lie that BBC reporters knew about the attack in advance and had rented an apartment with a perfect view of the carnage. Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek, a major Erdoğan ally and an avid user of Twitter, lent support to the conspiracy and even alleged that the BBC and the UK had had a hand in the terror attack. BBC had to make a statement refuting these allegations raised on social media as baseless and said these lies risked the lives of BBC reporters. - Editorial, Turkish Minute http://www.turkishminute.com/2016/12/20/opinion-journalist-refuse-intimidated/

The real concern is that Erdogan does not have a firm grip on his nutty country; that coup needed a little more seasoning and it could have succeeded; and his relationship with ISIS is on-again (treating ISIS scum in border hospitals) off-again (cancelling border crossings for ISIS scum 'vacations' re: here we go a brothel-ing).

At any rate Pootin may have had enough of him anyway.

And what's the point of the pix, Putin and Erdogan have met a million times as well. As of now, Turkey, Iran and Russia are in talks in Moscow.

Bingo. This is all about the Caliphate.

Putin wants to stop that. Trump will want to stop that.
Putin isn’t a great guy, but he’s on the right side of this struggle. Heck, we worked with Stalin in WWII. The fact that Trump might get along with the Russians can only be a good thing.

The relationship between Russia and Turkey (Putin and Erdogan) is a bit murky. Supposedly they are working together now but Turkey did shoot down that Russian plane and Turkey and Syria are bitter enemies. Russia is allied with Syria. Russia would certainly like to co-opt Turkey into is sphere of influence.

[The assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand set into motion a whole chain of events, that once they commenced, could not be stopped.]

I had the same thought.

Erdogan’s hand in the assassination doesn't really need proof in light of Turkey shooting down a Russian warplane and the further loss of a Russian helicopter and crew. Turkey is aiding Syrian rebels, al Qaeda, and ISIS via a logistics corridor into Syria with ISIS stolen oil moving north to Erdogan’s refineries and foreign fighters, arms and materiel going south. Turkey has also harbored Chechen and other RF Islamist fugitives.

All of Turkey's moves in the Region are at cross purposes to Putin's. And Putin is paranoid.

Though Erdogan is a snake he's still a NATO member and an attack from Russia could set off a cascade of events as the murder of the Archduke and his family did in 1914.

The perp leaked a lot more; but then it looks like he had more holes; too!

Appears that one round hit his pistol and destroyed it.

The possibility that pigs could grow wings and fly also, exists

Erdogan has just got through making nice with Russia after working with the USA to ambush and down a Russian fighter - over Syrian territory - earlier this year ... Putin had him sweating for a while and turkey lost money from loss of tourism and other economic actions

It strains credulity to think Erdogan would order the killing of a Russian ambassador by a Turkish security guard - if for some reason Erdogan would order the killing of a VIP Russian “ guest” why wouldn’t he use a Kurdish bombing as cover ? And get the russians to,back him vs the Kurds

It’s unclear if the Russians tipped off Erdogan to a coup plot by a U.S. based dissident but some reports say they did and relations with the US took a hit and relations with Russia seemed to be improving

I think Erdogan should be embarrassed and angry about this serious breach of security and trust - so if he ordered it I’m just not serpentine enough to rationalize it

“World leaders from Vladimir Putin to President Obama have condemned the killing of Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, with some calling it an act of terrorism — but at least one conspiracy theory has emerged suggesting the entire event was staged and never happened.”

On AOL Fake news.
