NPRs Steve Inskeep and President Obama (NPR)
Regardless of what President-elect Donald Trumps plans are for immigration, President Barack Obama says there will be inevitable changes to the demographics of the United States.
If you stopped all immigration today, just by virtue of birth rates, this is going to be a browner country, Obama told NPRs Steve Inskeep in an interview that aired Monday. And if were not thinking right now about how we make sure that next generation is getting a good education and are instilled with a common creed and the values that make America so special and are cared for and nurtured and loved the way every American child is treated, then were not going to be as successful.
Obama said its natural for the nation to have some growing pains because of the substantial changes to the world during his eight years in office:
I started my presidency inheriting a massive crisis of proportions that we havent seen since the 1930s. It laid bare some long-term and troubling trends about globalization, and technology, and rising inequality, and the fragility of our financial systems, and the way in which middle-class folks felt they were getting squeezed. And the fact that the ladders of opportunity seem to be farther and fewer between for people who are trying to get out of poverty.
And throughout that process, we also then started seeing because when the economys not doing well some other tensions get laid bare changing attitudes about sexual orientation, and about race, and about the nature of families. And all of this has been amped up by the revolution in information, throwing through social media and the Internet. And so its a big dose. Its been a lot of stuff thats been coming at people really quickly, and its made folks anxious.
But Obama said the national conversation about race is long overdue.
All these smartphones suddenly taking pictures are not documenting a suddenly worsening relationship between the African-American community and the police, the president said. They are recording what has been a long-standing tension and the sense on the part of police that theyre put in a very difficult situation of trying to manage law enforcement in poor communities where guns are easily accessible, the African-American community being rightly convinced that there is a long history of racial bias in our criminal justice system.
And as painful as it is, that conversation is long overdue, he continued. So, my feeling is that if everybody takes a breath, and if we can structure a conversation that is less about how somebody else is trying to take advantage of me, and structure the conversation around how can we work together to solve problems that makes everybody better off, that America can emerge stronger. But that requires leadership. It requires citizenship. It requires all of us doing self-reflection at the same time as were fighting on behalf of the things that we care deeply about.
Obama said he plans to do that self-reflection after he leaves office.
I can say, and I can demonstrate, I can document that the country is a lot better off now than it was when I took office in almost every dimension, the president said. But what I can also say is that we could be doing even better. There are times where I reflect and ask myself, Is theres something else I could have done, something that I could have said slightly differently that would have led to additional progress and less polarization? And Ill probably, you know, as I reflect on my presidency, once Im out of just the day-to-day scrum of this thing, Im sure Ill come up with a whole bunch of things to add to my list. But I think all of us have to do that.
only if we have a long drought.
1) And why do browns outproduce over-taxed and over-worked whites? Partly culture, partly financial transfers. I call it the "cuckoo strategy", getting someone else to bear the expenses of child-rearing.
2)And, because this has been the trend, Mr. Pres., why are you so all fired up to accelerate it with non-white, non-Christian immigration grants and policies.
3)And... I haven't even gotten into you fetish for helping Islam spread...
Ray Nagin thought a chocolate city was fine, so why is obama against a browner country?
In fact, though, obama’s legacy is a redder USA, and we can be grateful for that.
Yes, and further we on the right REALLY DON’T GIVE A CRAP WHAT COLOR YOU ARE so long as you respect Constitutional rights and don’t carry socially destructive attitudes.
Well...since he spewed so much S**T...he’s right...
I see a Mental Hospital in Barry’s future
Brown stain....I love that. Color doesn’t matter, what does matter is the different tribes we are splitting into. This is not entirely divorced from the color of those being forced upon us with the PURPOSEFUL introduction of non-Christians of different countries that are Muslims of different sects. With low class illegals from Central America and Mexico, that have never had a single relative graduate from Junior High let alone High School. They too have gangs or “colors” that have those of the same skin color and national origin, hating each other. BROWN STAIN, it is what I will call BHO from now on, and I thank you for that.
He wants to follow the example of South Africa with property siezure and death.
The America that I first knew was portrayed in the Saturday Evening Post circa 1948. It was the Norman Rockwell cartoons. This in hard scrabble England at the time. I helped a Cockney deliver piece goods. We had very little. We thought what a paradise the United States must be, looking at the cartoons.
I have seemingly identified the inner soul of the President regarding race. He has a smouldering resentment of the white working and lower middle classes. They who have done him no wrong. Surely he could not see that as an American citizen, no one has to be forced to conform to that life style. They could go to Europe and try to kowtow to arrogant effete intellectual Europeans. They could go and be lectured by some far off Guru. Preaching the virtue of having nothing, then asking for money.
What I am trying to say is that the average white person, only desires to be left alone. Sadly the President - who owes virtually everything to ordinary America, is resentful. He wants a third world country- except that he wishes to live like a Lord himself.
I hope this digression by me is excused. I finally came to live opposite Michigan and know Rockwell's America still exists.
There is more truth to that statement than you know. Many white families are not having children because it just costs too much to raise them...
He is probably right. But frankly, I don’t care. What I do care about is how people THINK.
I hope Trump seriously considers increasing immigration from the heavy CHRISTIAN INTERIOR of Africa and Asia, while decreasing immigration overall.
Christians in Africa are being persecuted bigly. Asia, too.
When I first saw the headline of this post I was sure he was making a veiled reference to the Hitler “brown shirt” youths. It was so embarrassing having him as our POTUS for the past 8 years. He was the first President whom I would NOT have laid my life down for if required to do so. I would have turned away and answered for my actions later. But, honestly, I know you are supposed to TRY to love everyone but God is not a respector of persons, which to me means no one is more important than any one else, but concerning respect, Rodney Dangerfield reserved so much more respect as a person than this dip sh*t. I still think “Mr” O was the most successful one man sleeper cell the Muslims, yes, the MUSLIMS ever foisted upon America. Think about it, who but him could have so thoroughly fucked our country as he did. Thank God that we have Donald Trump to try to fix all the damage done. Now HE I would lay my life down for in a heartbeat, no hesitation @ all. If Hillary had won....... NOT!!!!. I can’ wait to see what kind of lies they will display @ his presidential library, if I’m still alive when it’s finished, I am going to go... Belly laughing is so therapeutic.
Browner is a big improvement over black and also better than green
His racism was clear from the beginning but Americans aren't that bright at times.
I agree 100%. Dinesh D’Souza wrote and interesting book that portrayed this hate he has for colonialism as the driving force in his actions, but I believe it is deeper than that. I believe he is a racist, as is his wife.
Ditto everything you said and said well.
I do not care about the color of the skin of my fellow Americans.
Thank God this race baiting _resident only has days to go.
Typical liberal: Racist, always thinking about skin color and hating whitey.
Crap is brown and Obozo certainly did all he could to make it a crappier country.
