I did not vote for her either. I am getting a bad feeling about Daddy’s little girl, his one and only daughter. “Daddy will you meet with Al Gore. Please, please, please.” “Yes princess, I only want you to be happy.”

Where in the Constitution is the Congress authorized to meddle in matters regarding "child care"?

But that wasn’t part of her idea.

Ivanka is way too liberal and has too much influence on her daddy.

I don’t know who “they” is, but the Federal government should have no role in that whatsoever. If a state wants to require occupational licensing, then so be it.

Violations of free market capitalism are bad regardless of whether the policies are imposed at the federal level or the state or local level. It would be perfectly constitutional for the Feds to incentivize states to ease up on licensing requirements by making such changes conditional on continued federal funding.

Count me in the “Irritated” Camp. I took umbrage at this issue and Ivanka herself the first time she touted this - geeze, right before or after Donald getting the nomination.

Get the economy going again so one parent or the other can stay home and raise their kids, not make childcare more affordable so more kids can be raised in kennels.

Baloney. The Tenth Amendment gives states authority in all matters outside the powers specifically given to the Federal government under the Constitution. Whether occupational licensing is "good" or "bad" is not necessarily a matter of free market capitalism. If it was as clear an issue as you make it sound, then we'd see huge disparities in economic measures between states that require occupational licensing and those that do not.

If you live in a state where you think occupational licensing is a bad thing, then either work to change the law in your own state or move somewhere else.

Don’t have a problem with the idea of helping family through savings accounts sheltered from taxes for childcare,

They should start by reviewing all the programs in place now, Then come up with a plan that is family friendly but not entitlements. End most if not all current programs and put new program in place.

The devil will be in the details.

Bingo. I hate to see her soil herself like this, but she’s determined.

Alas, she’ll destroy the image she worked so hard to embellish.

P.S. -- I work in a profession (engineering) where occupational licensing is required in every U.S. state for projects involving public use. There's no way in hell anyone should consider eliminating these requirements.

Interestingly, there is no such thing as a Federal professional engineering license. This is now the focus of an interesting legal dispute related to the Gold King Mine spill in Colorado in 2015. A Congressman filed a formal complaint against the EPA with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies because the mine reclamation project wasn't being supervised by a professional engineer licensed in the state of Colorado. It will be fascinating to see how this all plays out.

You are right that the federal government isn't supposed to pass laws that override state laws, but they get around this all the time by attaching strings to federal funds. That's how we get bad policies like Common Core, Michelle Obama's school lunches, and Title IX kangaroo rape courts on college campuses. Yes ideally, we'd have completely free markets at the state level and limited interference by the Feds, but at this point I'll take any win for freedom I can get.

This article illustrates some of the costs on licensing in just one state, Nevada.

Ho Hum Yawn

I prefer her fathers policy of creating good jobs so 1 parent can stay home and raise their own kids over more tax credits so Moms can drop off the kids on the way to their part time jobs at Piggly Wiggly

A concept alien in her social milieu

Yeah, it’s like she’s channeling Chelsea Clinton. She may end up being the pebble in the shoe. An Ivanka shoe, or course.
I appreciate that she probably got him some votes, but that’s it.

Agree. It is not up to the govt. to micro-manage lives which have all sorts of different needs. One family maybe needs to have two incomes just to get by and would love a deduction, but another family may also need two incomes, but somehow scrapes by so that the kids can be raised by a parent, so they are dinged twice, once by missing out on the second income and again by not getting the tax credit. A third family may decide to delay having kids until they can afford to take care of them, etc. Nobody deserves more than anyone else just because they chose to have kids. If you can’t afford to manage the finances around raising children, do not have them. The public already pays a lot for schools, playgrounds, etc. People with two parents working also take special days off work for school conferences and so on. It seems they expect those without children to give and give without sharing the benefits. If Ivanka wants to help people with child care costs she can use her money and set up a foundation or something, partner with Bill Gates or let Al Gore pitch in.
