WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration on Wednesday finalized a rule that lets wind-energy companies operate high-speed turbines for up to 30 years even if means killing or injuring thousands of federally protected bald and golden eagles.
Under the new rule, wind companies and other power providers will not face a penalty if they kill or injure up to 4,200 bald eagles, nearly four times the current limit. Deaths of the more rare golden eagles would be allowed without penalty so long as companies minimize losses by taking steps such as retrofitting power poles to reduce the risk of electrocution.
The new rule will conserve eagles while also spurring development of a pollution-free energy source intended to ease global warming, a cornerstone of President Barack Obama's energy plan, said Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe.
"No animal says America like the bald eagle," Ashe said in a statement. He said the Fish and Wildlife Service is trying to balance energy development with eagle conservation.

I don’t agree with the FedGov subsidized jobs aspect of this, but we were talking about view right of way, so I addressed that point.
I don’t agree with giving a sign off on the Eagle deaths either. Eagles aren’t the only birds being killed off by each unit. It’s disgusting what takes place in one of those windmill farms.
Your description of temp jobs and long term jobs sound about right. And if all else was okay, I wouldn’t object. There are some real problems here though, and you did touch on them.
The loopholes for these companies vs other companies are unacceptable.
BTW: I believe there are some precedents too.
I’m not sure I’d want to prevail in that manner though.
We may not like infringements, but infringements are a nasty reality of life.
Thanks for the discussion.
So Dan’s making an “Ashe” out of himself again?
The eagles are not impressed with his stupidity but this is typical of SOME in the F&WL Service. Look at the fiasco about ground hogs or gophers or turtles and cattle safety on public grazing lands in their clash with the rancher family out west. Got their information all wrong about any real threat to wildlife.
Now they want to allow Eagle Chopped Suey for Big Clean Energy. Want fries with that?
We are good...........
I wish it could have wound up more in your favor on that scenario. At any rate thanks again.
Hoist on their own petards.
I guess you need some history...and some real life stuff.
Maybe you need some of my history....In regards to land owning..and such.
Ditto all that............
“Whose landscape are wind turbines blighting?”
Mine! We can’t drive to the eastern part of our county to look at a beautiful reservoir without “legions” of these pieces of crap marring the vistas. And most of them are broken so they don’t work. Talk about Solyndra. This stuff is just another example of our government pi$$ing away our hard-earned tax dollars. And don’t get me started about how our schools, our Police dept. etc have these “covered parking lots” with ugly-a$$ed solar panels protecting the paint on our teachers and our cops personal vehicles. It’s government run amuck!
Thanks for posting. Just shared it on FB.
Except for the background, this looks exactly like the Altamont Pass east of Oakland, CA. The other major turd in the punchbowl in CA is the Ivanpah solar energy facility on the border near Las Vegas. This MF just had one of it’s concentrators suffer a coolant failure which caused it to melt down. Most people look at is as a big “bird barbecue.”
It might help. Going through legal situations are certainly a crash course. I do understand the concepts you’re addressing. I have to put myself in your shoes, and then think if I could have a reasoned chance at prevailing. In some instances, I couldn’t.
Take care...........
You too...
You didn’t learn anything going into court?
Wind generation is another crony capitalist venture to hand public subsidies to connected insiders. I can’t imagine it generates enough to offset the costs along with visual, audible, and wildlife harm and loss of property value to neighbors.

Why did you let them build wind turbines on your property and all it’s beautiful vistas and that entire reservoir that you own?
If they had build wind turbines on my property, I would be fighting mad as well.
Is there anything you can do to get them to remove the wind turbines from the land that you own?
I never did say that wind turbines do not kill birds.
For the 12 month period ending July 2016, wind energy provided 12.14% of all in-state electricity production.
Equivalent number of homes powered by wind: 4.1 million
